Three different meals in three different regions of Ecuador in a day? Really?

In this post we are going to try to figure out if what is said here in Ecuador it’s actually possible and then see how worth is it too.

I was born, and lived my whole life in Ecuador and I always have heard that “you can have breakfast in the coast of Ecuador, then travel a while and be in the mountain range region for lunch and then travel a bit more and finally, have dinner at the rain forest of the country”.

Let’s review a few list of facts before we start, Ecuador:

  • Has four regions: Coast, Mountain range, Rain forest, Islands.
  • Its territory is 276,841 km2 or 106,889 sq mi.
  • It is located in South America.
  • The language spoken is spanish and the currency US dollar.
  • The longest nonstop ride by car is 17 hours

Like in every country I guess, food changes by its region, so Ecuador is super diverse in many ways but when we talk about food it is incredible.

Let’s start our journey in Esmeraldas, having breakfast at 7am, staring at the Pacific Ocean, feeling the warm weather and a ligere breeze, smelling the ocean with the delicious food in front of you. But wait, where is Esmeraldas and what we are having for breakfast?

Esmeraldas is a beautiful beach in the coast of Ecuador, there are many things you can do. Most people prefer it for going on vacation. The food we are having here is called "Encebollado " and nothing compares to it, it is delicious, it contains fish, cassave, onions and you eat it with chifles chips from plantain. There’s no much I can do to explain but once here you can find it everywhere since we all love it.

We are going to start out car ride to the mountains with a happy heart because of full belly at 9am. It is going to take about 6 hours to arrive to Quito , the capital of Ecuador that is 2,850 m or 9,350 ft high.

Once there we are going to have lunch with a coat on because it can get really cold. In Quito is located the middle of the world , the ecuadorian line is here. We have many options to eat here the dishes have main ingredients from this region: potatoes, corn, guinea pigs (yes!), pork.

We are having a dish called “fritada” It is pork fried basically but really good and flavory, here the pictures:

At 5pm we will be done having that delicious food and continue our trip nos to the rain forest of the contry. In our way we are going to see how vegetation changes and we are going to cross a lot of rivers until we arive to "El Chaco " a beatuful small town in the middle of nothing more than trees and exotic animals, at 7pm. All of the rivers are good to swim and we can appreciate waterfalls. The weather is warm but super rainy. The food is really exotic people eat a lot of cassave and animals like guanta, chontacuros . Hunting here is possible and natives know how to do it very well. We are going to have guanta for dinner (it is really good and has to be hunted because is a jungle animal), I don’t have any picture of that food :(. But here you have pictures of that wonderful place:

And here our trip has finished, and we concluded that doing this is actually possible.

It is worth it if you wanted to just try the food from this three different regions in a day, but no if you want to travel this wonderful places.

It was nice to tell you all about this and share with you!

Here you can have some links of the food and some sources for more:

ETA of the ful trip

Quito has a lot of legends, most of them are “thrillers” here is a list I made of them
