Have seen many times in the past people worrying about business places owners who were threatening them of legal action after a negative review. This is the first video which will finally tell you how to deal with this situations.
Really hope it will be useful to Local Guides and in general to people who put all their effort in helping others finding the right places where to go and who face injustices of dishonest business places owners.
Mostly good advice to always tell the truth @user_not_found . You need to be a little bit careful though, in many countries while the owner is unlikely to succeed in a legal case there is nothing stopping them from lodging one which can cost you money just to respond. This is why you only ever includes facts in a review and avoid opinions and hearsay.
Yeah that’s true @PaulPavlinovich , it still depends on the country. In mine for example you have nothing to pay unless you go to a court and so you have to hire a lawyer, but if there is no crime, everything is archived before even arriving to this. In my country they have even automatically established, basing on a past case, reviews are not defamation without the exception of injuries and clearly fake things.
In any case reporting only true facts is very important and in fact that’s why I always remark “no injuries and no fake things” but yes, in general the facts I write in a review should also be completely verifiable. And written without using too much strong expressions. That’s also why, despite in my country getting reported for a review is very uncommon, I always write things like “staff were not much accomodating”, “staff were rude”, “I didn’t enjoy my food” and not things like “staff are boors”, “food is disgusting”…
The use of words is important in every situation, being polite even if we are dealing with very impolite people is very importantand a review written in a calm way and by explaining only true and verifiable facts is going 99% of cases to be legally untouchable.
