This Post is Under Revision

After receiving a personal message from one of my Connect friends, I have decided to revise this post. My friend kindly informed me that AI-generated content is against the rules of Connect. Therefore, I have decided not to promote the use of AI in this manner.

Original Post (To be revised/deleted)

Many of us have been there — you see an interesting post and want to reply, but your mind just goes blank. What should I say? How do I express my thoughts clearly? Here’s a simple and smart solution — use Artificial Intelligence tools like Gemini to help you write or reply with ease! AI can give you a great starting point, whether it’s a comment, a caption, or a thoughtful reply. But remember, AI is just a helper — you are the final editor!

How to Use AI for Writing Help:

  1. Copy the original post you want to comment on.
  2. Paste it into Gemini with this simple prompt: “Suggest comment for the following post.”
  3. You’ll get a ready-to-use comment suggestion.
  4. Review the result and customize it to reflect your own thoughts and voice.

Example from my experience (Related to point 4):

When I took the help of AI to write a comment on a post, it suggested: “I’m adding this place to my bucket list!” But the post was about an American city. I knew I probably couldn’t afford to go there or might not get a visa — so I deleted that part and kept the rest that matched my thoughts.

Understand Prompt Types for Better Results:

  1. Single Prompt: “Suggest comment for the following post.” → for Basic and quick suggestion.
  2. Double Prompt: "Suggest a friendly and thoughtful comment for this travel-related post."→ This Adds tone and relevance.
  3. Multiple Prompt: (i). “Summarize this post.” (ii)“Now suggest a suitable comment for that summary.” → Great for long or detailed posts — gives clearer, sharper results.

Remember:

You don’t need to copy exactly what AI says. It’s just a starting point — your voice matters the most!

This is such a helpful idea!
Sometimes I want to join the conversation but get stuck on what to say.

This AI trick takes the pressure off.
Thanks for sharing this! @K.K.Sharma

:backhand_index_pointing_up: Note - that response was AI-Generated  if it makes you feel any better.

Instead of writing ‘wonderful post’, it’s better to write something meaningful about the content. This way, even someone using AI to write comments can get the gist of the post.

Even then, ‘wonderful post’ is far better than the ridiculous ‘Thank you for sharing this post with us’

Jokes apart, I agree that we should get the help of AI to rephrase our thoughts in a more presentable manner, and one that is devoid of grammatical mistakes.

However, the response to the post should be our own.

But relying solely on AI to generate a response that is organically not ours would be a robot reacting to a post, not a human.

Very helpful post. Thanks for sharing it with us. Sometimes I get stuck commenting too. From now I’ll try this.

Helpful suggestion if used in a genuine way @K.K.Sharma. The danger is that some people may use it to spam numerous posts in a short time. I’ve seen that on the help forums that I’m a member of.

In the spirit of the topic I Asked Gemini for some feedback on the original post, it’s not happy at all, but I made it create a poem to make it sound nicer : )

In digital chats, where words take flight,
AI’s allure might seem so bright.
To craft a reply, with speed and with grace,
But heed this warning, at a slower pace.

For though it assists with a clever suggestion,
It weakens the bonds of true connection.
Your voice, your own tone, begins to erode,
As AI’s bland phrases become your code.

Authenticity’s flame starts to dwindle and fade,
A genuine link is the price that is paid.
The subtle context, the joke, and the past,
In AI’s cold grasp, their meaning won’t last.

A comment it makes, precise and so neat,
But lacks the warm touch that makes it complete.
Misunderstood words, like seeds that are sown,
Where your true intent is tragically unknown.

On AI’s output, you start to rely,
Your own writing skills begin to die.
Like a crutch for the mind, it weakens your art,
Leaving true expression a world apart.

To pass off its words as your own design,
A deceptive practice, a twisted line.
For trust and rapport, a heavy toll,
A genuine voice is worth more than its weight in gold.

If all online echo AI’s dull tone,
The richness of discourse will be overthrown.
Original thought, a rare and prized thing,
Lost in the echoes that AI will bring.

Though prompting seems quick, the process, in truth,
Demands that you edit, refine, and smooth.
More time you may spend, than if you had penned,
A reply from the heart, your own thoughts to lend.

So weigh the allure, of this shortcut so near,
Against the true cost, of what you hold dear.
Let your own voice ring, both honest and bright,
Not AI’s pale copy, devoid of true light.

Fully agree, @Steve_UK

If we don’t know what to say, IMHO, we always have the option to say nothing, @K.K.Sharma
One of our most important core value is the originally, and I believe it is a value all of us have to take care of.

I absolutely love your poem @Steve_UK but I can’t click :+1: right now because @AdamGT 's “Dexter” bot doesn’t seem happy with me at the moment.

I don’t think we want to trash the idea put forward by @K.K.Sharma, but a word of caution is appropriate.

Dear @steve_UK, I really liked the poetry you shared in response to this post. I appreciate your creativity! However, at the same time, we should also think about those who may not be confident enough to express themselves on a platform like Connect.

In this regard, the suggestion made by @ErmesT could serve as a temporary solution. I agree with his view:

I strongly agree with your view, @tony_b. A word of caution is always necessary.
Further, I’ve come to know that the use of AI is against the rules of Connect, and we should definitely follow these guidelines, as they help us stay aligned with the platform’s goals.

Dear @K.K.Sharma
Let me better explain.
The recent evolution of the AI is indeed amazing, but needs to be used properly. In 8 years as a Moderator of Connect I had the opportunity to see how the way to write changed, evolved, in the topics posted.
Of course we have a lot of well written posts and helpful replies, but on the other side we have new Local Guides who just arrive and wants to be (or to appear) cool, and to show expertise.
Till one year ago most of this people was pasting in Connect contents fully copied from the web, while now they rely on contents generated by the AI.
Normally the subject of this kind of posts is:

  • How to better contribute on Maps
  • how to take great photos
  • how to write engaging reviews

Sometimes they also wants to help people with issues, so they ask an AI, and they paste the reply here.

Most of the time this kind of content contains errors and wrong information. As these replies are obviously well written it’s very easy to trust them, and sometimes this can put in a serious trouble the person who is asking for help.
Just a few days ago I asked to one of these self proclaimed experts if he was following his own tips when he writes a review, because his reviews were always something like “good”, “nice place”, and so on.
Others admitted that their reviews were AI generated.
On one side I acknowledge that the focus of your post is different, but on the other side I believe that this can end in a complete loss of the writing skills (and sometimes, as highlighted by @Steve_UK ) in loosing the ability of real interactions between people.
Connect is, and wants to be, a community of people, who learn from each other, and grow together.
That’s why originality is one of our most important core values.
My writing may not be perfect (English is not my mother language) but I hope the concept is clear enough.
Thanks

Ermes

@K.K.Sharma sahab
lots of people using it even I use to refine my English and enhance vocabulary. Lots of people using it they may not admit it but they do. There are n number of LGs using AI generated images without even telling people that the images are AI generated. For structuring and grammatical errors it’s great tool but creating content out of nothing is I guess a bit of novelty killer.
When we moved from old Connect to new connect the idea was to promote genuine content , avoid spam and keep everything organized.
People celebrating a b c days on connect is still I guess out of context thing. I don’t know if it’s under leeway but feels bit unnecessary.
Only mods can intervene not people like us. You are kind enough to amend the post and convey the correct message :+1:t2:

I am in favor of saying something on a post instead of ignoring and keeping quiet.
I will, if required, take the help of AI.

AI is so deeply embedded in our daily work, like typing and error correction, Google Translate, and so on, let’s not give it a bad aura.

Many times, it is not possible to read entire posts since they are long, and we may not have the time to read through them. AI can summarize it and also suggest fair responses.

We can take hints from everything that AI provides us, and respond, again taking help of AI to refine or rephrase them.

Useful information on AI related inputs @K.K.Sharma ji. Personally, I use very less AI as writing my own thoughts is something I’m passionate about. Thank you for sharing

Agree @K.K.Sharma , it’s a great tool useful in many ways, especially for writing.

As I said in the reply, my post was generated by Gemini in response to the original post. It represents 2 sides of the coin i think.

  • It made an interesting post, was well written, creative, added to the discussion and prompted replies.

  • Doesn’t represent anything I was thinking, so ingenuine.

I didn’t mean any disrespect, and I appreciate you encouraging people to contribute, and you always post great topics and information in this community. Ai is a hot and controversial topic!
