It was last year (2019) when I discovered Local Guides Program from a friend. I was on the stage of crisis in my life, trying to find my purpose in this world. The first time I heard about Local Guides made me so excited about how does the program work. It was all about contribution, but my question to myself is: how can I grow as a person and share that success with others? I was excited to share things with other people by engaging them with reviews, photos and answers questions they might have, until when I was one of the people asking questions about a specific place. My friends and I were looking for a small orphanage in town where we want to share gift-giving to children and we found “Bahay Aruga - A Free Halfway House for Children With Cancer” with the help of google maps. I contacted the social worker and able to book an event with them. It was December, Christmas season-best time to share good things with people. We throw out a small party for the children, gift-giving and small talks. 'Twas painful to see these kids at their age suffering this kind of disease. They don’t go to school anymore because cancer stole their dream. But the thing is it’s not all about the pain, it is about how brave these kids are. Growing up with this kind of illness is difficult for them to endure because they have to fight every day, whilst others are enjoying life, living the life we want, truly life is unfair. On the brighter side, it was great to see them smiling despite what they are going through. Local Guides taught me that connection is like treasures and memories the kids will remember. What Local Guides means to me now is to Never forget a kindness, no matter how busy you are, wherever you are in the world, no matter how hard life is, no matter successful you are, no matter who you are, you may forget the injuries but Never Forget Kindness. Through my contribution to Google Maps, I will build a culture of love that starts with kindness and empowerment to people, especially those who are impacted by destitute circumstances. I will continue to be the instrument in making the world a better place with the help of Local Guides Program.
