This is really annoying

Hello everyone,

I know many of you facing this issue, but this one is slightly different. I was visiting Canada and had no problem posting my reviews, In contrary to what I experienced almost with all my reviews in Stockholm/Sweden. So, now I am back home, and guess what, my review is rejected with following explanation ”Your content violates our policies and isn’t allowed”.

Since the verdict has been passed, I would appreciate if anyone can shed a light on what part of my latest review (I visited for two hours ago), could be against so called “policies”. Please see the attached screenshots.

Many thanks in advance

Nothing is wrong with your review, it‘s just one of the typical review problems, Google is spreading into the user community. I had the same problem with all my reviews from my France holidays last year and Croatia holidays this year. As soon as you publish reviews from places far away from your home town, they shut down >80% of them… it is very frustrating that Google is not interested in finding a solution here since a very long time… the only option you have is to appeal to the decision and wait for months until they set them live again.

Thanks for your reply @ItsJannemann , in contrary, all my reviews were published in Canada, but not in my hometown Stockholm.

@I-am-Q Wow, that‘s even weirder…

@I-am-Q and @ItsJannemann from many comments here on Connect as well as my own experience, I did not see any indication that the region of the place, you reviewed plays a role. Instead the AI checks the text and the content of photos for “violations” of the rules. While it never tells us, what exactly was considered wrong, I was able to resolve some very strange of those rejections.

Some examples:

  • I spent weeks, wondering why a review was refused. After removing all photos, I copied the entire text to a file, deleted it form the review and added again phrase by phrase. after I found the sentence, AI did not like, I replace that word by word. At the end, I found out replacing “Kartoffel-Chips” by “Kartoffelchips” solved it! No Idea why! I guess, before analyzing the text by AI, it needs to translated to English and something weird comes out.
  • In any review, it was a photo, where the camera was accidentally set to insert date, time and some EXIF-information into the image. Removing the picture resolved the problem.
  • In another case, I copied the text, deleted the review, created a new review with exactly the same text and it went through!

Thanks a lot for sharing @WilfriedB , the thought has also crossed my mind several times, but it is a matter of time. It seems to me at least, that Google doesn’t care!

As I am curious, I’m going to give it a chance and try the same method you have done.

all the best

Hello @I-am-Q , we are having the same problem as you. I could not add many places in many countries such as France and Italy. I think this is completely related to algorithms. @MortenCopenhagen is thinking of writing an article on this subject. I recommend you to share your experiences. :+1:t2:

Thanks, and oh yeah @Gezendunyali , I also had a hard time getting my reviews from the visit to Denmark accepted. However, I am convinced that the filter that has been applied in the AI is somehow out of control and does many things that were not intended in the first place. I may be miles off in my hypothesis, but this is truly insane and can hardly be ascribed to follow any logical algorithm.

PS

I deleted my review and put in the same text but took away one picture and edited a minor change in one of picture. It seems to be approved now.
