This is my story how Google Maps saved me from depression

Hi Google Guides. I’m Svetlana from Warsaw, Poland. I`m at the eighth level of the program.

When I moved here, I was alone without relatives or friends. I faced many problems.

One of them was moving around the city. I did not know what transport to choose. Job and housing search required knowledge of the area and this was a huge problem. I fell into terrible depression.

I installed app and started using the Google Maps. It rally helped me to move around the city. Google Maps gave me the shortest and quickest route which saved a lot of time.

I found electronic friend, who knows a lot. Google Guides sent me questions and tasks. I had a lot of fun answering them. I began to gain new levels and points, and forgot about depression!

It has become my hobby. I was so amazed and inspired that I started to invite my friends. I signed up in social networks, like youtube, I began to write articles and shoot videos about the functions of Google Maps, which I have not known about before.

People started to ask questions, and I saw how many people like Google Guides. The next step was the video recording in museums, exhibitions, galleries, etc.

My materials help people to travel who are not able to travel. So they enjoy watching my channel and read articles.

When you add a new road, you help people not to get lost and save the most precious thing we have - time. If you write a review about the restaurant, the entrepreneur reads it and tries to improve service level.

When you notice a lack of ramps or special road markings for the blind, you remind others that we are all different and have special needs.

If somebody thanks you in feedback, you know that you have helped someone, you’re proud of yourself, and realize “Yes”, you help people.

By your actions, you affect the world, you make it better and safer. People become more attentive to each other.

I am happy to be a part of Google Guides community. Thank you all and hope to see you in California Connect Life 2020. See you!

Hello @SvitlanaChurina ,

There is definitely a mental benefit, as you did! I am a social psychology student who considers the potential of Local Guides. It have three important elements for humans “going out”, “getting various interests”, and “experiencing”. This may not always be what was intended. But it is undoubtedly a very effective activity for mental problems.

I have this opinion and have been appealing to guides for a long time.

:slightly_smiling_face:
