May 23 is celebrated as World Turtle Day. The reason why this cute animal turtle whose habitat is in the water and on land has an international day of remembrance stems from the idea of American Tortoise Rescue [ATR] which aims to remind how important it is to protect all types of turtles and tortoises, that exist on this earth.

Because tortoises and turtles are rare and endangered animals that we should guard and protect their sustainability so that they continue to exist and future generations can still find tortoises and turtles as they are today.

Tortoises and turtles are important role for the sustainability of ecosystems in the water and at sea.

For this reason, various activities have been made aimed at saving the existence of turtles and turtles in the wild.

One example is the relocation of green turtle eggs and also captive breeding. carried out by related parties who are responsible for protected endangered species.

On the Sangalaki Natural Tourism Park [TWA] we will be invited to see and interact with the baby turtles resulting from the egg relocation which is carried out 24 hours a week non-stop by the Sea Turtle Defender.

The relocation of the turtle eggs must be accelerated by time, because if the eggs are exposed to sea water, it is certain that no baby turtles will hatch, because sea water damages the eggs.

At the relocation location, the eggs will be placed in a hole similar to the ground like the initial place where the mother turtle lays eggs, recording the number and time and date of the eggs being relocated, which aims to facilitate data collection on the number of eggs that hatch and those that fail to hatch.

Newly hatched baby turtles have a shell that is still soft, its tiny and cute appearance really captivates visitors to play with them for a long time.

The baby turtles are usually released into the wild at night.

Turtles are animals that never know their mothers, because after the process of laying eggs, their mothers will leaving the eggs for further swimming in the ocean across continents.

And so on what happens with the abandoned eggs, the life cycle is like that.

To go to Sangalaki Island we can take a group trip tour or rent a speed boat from Tanjung Batu Port, Berau.

Entrance ticket here is IDR 15,000/person.
