If you are from the Bandung city, you can go through the toll road to save time avoiding traffic jams which happens every day especially on weekends or holidays.

Incidentally I visited during the year-end holidays, so going by toll road is the best choice. Heading to the tourist site we will easily find several sellers of strawberries.

Please be careful when driving here because the road is narrow and winding uphill.

Try to use a driver who is an expert in dealing with mountainous road terrain. From the direction of Bandung, our destination is next to left.

Ticket :

The entrance ticket is quite expensive :

  • for a 4-wheeled car, Rp. 162,000.
  • Ticket t visitors per person for local tourists IDR 30,000
  • and for international tourists IDR 90,000.
  • If we want to save money or don’t bring a private car, we can pay a ticket of IDR 29,000 to ride ontang anting , which is a mode of transportation modified in such a way as to bring visitors provided by the management.Which comes from the Sundanese language which means back and forth.

The road to get to the crater location is quite challenging so it needs focus and caution for visitors who bring cars to arrive at the location.

Preparing this stuff :

  • Please bring a jacket or wear thick clothing because the temperature in the crater area is very cold, 8°C-15°C. But don’t worry if you forget to bring a jacket, because there many lots of jackets for rent.

View

After climbing and descending the stairs, we arrive at the white crater.Kawah Putih Ciwidey (white Crater) is a lake of sulfur water formed from the eruption of Mount Patuha.

Located at an altitude of more than 2,400 above sea level. Given the name Kawah Putih Ciwidey (white crater) because the color of the sand around it is white and has a greenish-white water color that can change according to the levels of sulfur contained in the cage, the smell of sulfur can still be smelled when strong winds blow.

Kawah Putih Ciwidey has a slightly mystical history before being exposed by a botanical expert, who came from Germany, namely Dr. Franz Wilhelm, conducted research in the area of the former eruption of Mount Patuha.

At the beginning of the research period, the botanist received stories from the local people about the awesomeness of the crater, that is, every bird that flies past must die and it is believed by the surrounding people as something mystical.

So that none of the surrounding residents dared to approach let alone visit the crater. The botanist was increasingly curious and finally arrived in the crater area and obtained a very beautiful view, namely the crater with its greenish-white water and the smell of sulfur in the crater area.

The Kawah Putih began to be developed into a tourist destination since 1987 by the local government and became one of West Java’s mainstay tourist destinations in Bandung.

Parking area :

  • There are two parking areas here, namely the upper parking which is in the white crater area and it’s free because parking fees are included in the ticket 4-wheeled vehicles.
  • The second parking area is near the entrance to the ticket booth for visitors who use ontang anting, parking here is paid.

Facility:

  • For Muslim worship, a prayer room is also provided.
  • Toilets and information services are available in the upper parking area.
  • For visitors who feel hungry , near the ticket window, there are many food vendors lined up neatly.
  • Bandung souvenir sellers are also here, so don’t worry about food.

Keep safety and please adhering guidelines that are posted on the warning boards by the manager for mutual safety. Don’t hesitate to ask other visitors for help if you experience an emergency during activities in the crater area.

I hope you’re doing well. It’s been a great struggle to get to the location, because Indonesia is a tropical country, so when you have to be in an area with cold temperatures, you need adjustments.
