Traversing in an unfamiliar route, staying in a homestay, learning one’s culture- these defined my passion for discovering new places. Even before I became an active GLG, I go out of my comfort zone to try new dishes and splurge into a life-changing adventure. I discovered that even 1,000 miles apart, one can help strangers through online platforms like Google Map. To date, here are the interesting things I’ve done as a Local Guide:
Add new places, Everyone is lining up to try new flavors of these two (2) newly opened milktea shop in our town (MLK T Barotac Nuevo & Fine Dust Milk Tea Shop) but for some who is not familiar with our area, they might get puzzled. I personally order their milktea and eagerly add the place and post a review to the Google Map. Viola! Now, the community will have now an overview of the flavors and prices these two shops could offer. Travelers who pass by to our town could have a freshly brewed milktea.
Reply to the strangers, I know talking to the strangers is awkward but heck no! Not for me either as a Local Guide. I love helping my fellow traveler who has travel concerns (see photo below), as long as I am connected to the internet, I answer their question as much as I can. And it’s fulfilling knowing you save someone’s day by helping them. I know that feeling when you have a clarification and no one will shed light on your concerns.
Edit business information, I am bothered when someone will check certain establishments on Google Map and it will pop incorrect information like exact address or business name. To avoid confusion, I suggest for edit in detail that I found inaccurate. When visiting a place I always look at their pertinent information so the next time I give my review I could recommend for change of information and I can post a detailed review.
Online platform could go a long way when handled properly. Google Map is making its way to help small businesses who solely depend on the power of internet or social media. I am happy that I was able to discover this platform that will allow me to give my reviews on the places I visited. It’s my way of paying it forward on the excellent customer service of our entrepreneurs. And, I was also able to help someone who is uncertain. I am blissful of the interesting things I’ve done as a Local Guide. I #livetoconnect.
