The Zoo in Nainital!

Hello LGs,

Nainital in Uttarakhand is a beautiful place in the hills to spend a vacation. The lake & cool temperatures make it a lovely destination to spend time walking, shopping in the numerous shops along the lake & enjoying various local delicacies.

But Nainital has a gem of a sight to see - often ignored by most tourists - The G B Pant Zoo.

The zoo is located on a hill so be prepared to spend a lot of time walking/climbing steep inclines & stairs. The animals and enclosures are well maintained and I found a good number of species here. The enclosures start with birds, continue with small animals & end with the big cats. All paths in the zoo are marked with arrows for visitors to follow so that everyone can see & enjoy all the enclosures.

The next time you are in Nainital, do visit this place. Till then enjoy my pictures below & let me know your views in the comments!!

===================================================================================================

Place : G B Pant Zoo, Nainital, Uttarakhand. One can easily spend 2-3 hours here.

Timings : Open 10 am to 4:30 pm. Closed on Mondays.

How to reach : There are 7 seater SUVs that take tourists from the main road to the gate of the Zoo so that the initial climb is avoided.

Tickets : INR 50 for adults, INR 20 for kids between 5 to 12 years. INR 25 for still camera.

Notes : The enclosures are mostly made of metal cages & not open ones. This provides a hindrance for photography & the camera doesn’t focus on the subject correctly. Try to bring the camera as close as possible to the enclosure & use manual focus to get a sharp picture.

@Nyainurjanah the stairway is not continuous. Since the zoo is located on a hill one has to climb few steps & can view few enclosures. After that there are again few steps & then again few enclosures. For senior citizens it can be a bit tiring. The wild animals are really very well taken care of therefore, its definitely worth visiting.
