The Year of Tolerance 2019 in United Arab Emirates

United Arab Emirates is a beautiful country– with lots and lots of World records and plenty of innovations and initiatives. One among those unique initiatives is that every year the country celebrates a THEME. The whole year, across the country this theme is taken up in a serious manner and plenty of activities are conducted.

In 2016 it was The year of Reading. Schools and Universities took it up in a huge manner encouraging the students to read.

2017 was The year of Giving. Again it was a huge success.

2018 was The Year of Zayed – This is because 2018 marked 100 years since the birth of the founding father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nayhan.

2019 is The Year of Tolerance – which is an extension of the Year of Zayed – “highlighting the UAE as a global capital for tolerance, via its various legislative and policy-oriented goals to enhance the role of the country in instilling the values of co-existence and peace in local, regional and international communities. The Year of Tolerance is an extension of the Year of Zayed, as it upholds the values of tolerance and co-existence that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan established among the people of the UAE.” Please read the whole article from https://uaecabinet.ae/en/details/news/e-president-declares-2019-as-year-of-tolerancBurjuman Centre with the LOGO of Year of tolerance. Took this photo from inside of the bus I was travelling

The logo, is inspired by the ghaf, the UAE’s national tree.

  • The ghaf “represents a great cultural value in the UAE and is associated with the identity and heritage of the country.”
  • The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan has given great importance to the ghaf and issued laws and regulations prohibiting the cutting of the tree throughout the country," a statement by the Supreme national Committee read.
  • “Our ancestors and tribes gathered under the shadows of the ghaf trees to discuss their daily matters. Also, a number of UAE rulers used to meet their citizens and listen to their demands directly under the shadows of these trees,” the committee added.
  • The statement continued, “The ghaf tree symbolises stability and peace and has the ability to adapt in the desert.”
  • “The ghaf is planted in many countries around the world, particularly in the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia and the Americas, but under different names. For us, this year, we aim to establish it as a global logo for tolerance,” it added. Ref: https://www.khaleejtimes.com/year-of-tolerance/ghaf-tree-theme-for-year-of-tolerance-2019

@smyx1212 That’s nice. What is the plant symbol used for ? I just checked on Hogweed. wow… it says touching a Giant hogweed can cause skin problems which can be a permanent health issue and if the sap enters the eyes, you can go blind also.
