The world-famous Zhangjiajie Park, to be more exact, the wider area, the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, is the first Chinese park to receive the status of a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site.
As a result of the weathering of sandstones and limestones, as well as the washing out of the soil, about 3000 peaks and cliffs of the most bizarre outlines were formed. The mountains are covered with dense vegetation, and they are separated by deep gorges with rivers, lakes and waterfalls. These peculiar rock formations are a distinctive feature of the Chinese landscape depicted in numerous ancient paintings.
It is said that local landscapes were among those that inspired the director of the film βAvatarβ to create the floating mountains of the planet Pandora. This served as a kind of advertisement for the park, and after the film was released on screens, the flow of tourists to Zhangjiajie increased significantly. Grateful Chinese even renamed one of the mountains to βAvatar-Hallelujβ, and put several βavatarsβ in the park, near which the queues for photos usually lined up. And indeed, while walking in the park I got the impression that I was somewhere on another planet, so incredible landscapes sometimes opened before my eyes.
It is in the mountains of the avatar is the Elevator of the Hundred Dragons - the highest open lift in the world. It takes tourists to the top of a 330-meter-high steep slope in the very center of Zhangjiajie Park. A trip to the glass elevator cabin will offer you a stunning view of the plain. The main thing is to get closer to the window, because 50 people fit into the booth, and not everyone can enjoy the beauties opening from above.
The Natural Bridge number 1 (The First Bridge under Heaven | Tianxia Diyi Qiao) or βThe Bridge over the Skyβ is a kind of unique in the world, unique natural creation. At an altitude of 357 meters, it connects the peaks of two rocks. Its length is 50 meters, width is 4 meters, thickness is 5 meters. It is the highest natural bridge in the world.
