A good review is worth a million dollars and a bad review is worth even more. Studies show that 88% of consumers consult reviews before making a purchase, and yet another study indicated that 63% of consumers are more likely to make a purchase from a site that has customer reviews. That’s why I take contributing reviews to businesses very seriously. I know that my words can impact how the world views a company and can determine whether or not to spend their dollars there.
Sometimes, I feel like a secret shopper when I go into establishments. Critiquing the service, testing the employees’ knowledge, tasting their specialties, and checking for good deals. I am pleased to say most establishments meet my expectations. I find great satisfaction in giving great reviews to those that deserve them. This is one of my favorite parts of being a local guide. I can help provide information and clarity to people looking for a great dinner, a good shopping mall, a fun experience, a new adventure, and local businesses.
The flip side of that is giving honest reviews on places I received a disappointing experience and bad service. Although they’re not fun to give I feel like I owe it to the people to share what experience I received. Poor reviews can also help improve the business and help them see from the eyes of the customer.
Tips on Providing Great Reviews:
- Give detailed experience about your visit
- If reviewing food- share what you ordered and how it tasted
- Provide a picture when possible to provide imagery to your review
- Ask employees questions to see what they know and learn the history of the establishment
- Write 3-5 Sentences- You get 10 bonus points for detailed reviews (200 characters or more)
As my time as a local guide, I have contributed over 120 reviews that have been seen by 34,000 people. I feel like I am making a difference in my community and improving the accuracy of Google Maps. I will continue to post honest reviews as long as possible!
