অচিন গাছ or the unknown tree is situated at Kamarchala, Bangladesh. This is neither a banyan tree nor a Ficus rumphii. But the size or the volume of this tree looks like a banyan tree. Though the shape of the leaf is 100% different than the banyan or the Ficus. As people cannot identify this tree so they give it the name as অচিন গাছ or the unknown tree.

This unknown tree is around 3 kilometers away from my village home. During my childhood, this tree was visible from my home when the sky was clear. It was that much tall then. But at present, the tall top branches of the tree is no more. Vertically it has just become a small tree with two long horizontal stretched branches.
Earlier a weekly bazaar held here and my father used to come here. But that bazaar is no more exist a nearby bazaars are more popular. I think this tree will be more than a hundred years old. This tree was at the brink of extinction. But the government has saved it by building a permanent brick pavement/fence around it which saved it from being cut by the villagers. Villagers now know that this tree is protected by the government and if they make any harm to it, they will be punished by the administration.

I have not heard of any religious activity-centered on this tree. I have not heard any historical or mythical story about this tree as well. This was a tall tree when it was young and it was famous for that. It is still recognized by its name. As the government has taken steps to save it, I think it will survive many more years in the future.
Hello @MukulR and thank you so much for this great post on the ‘unknown tree’. I think it’s time to invite a good botanic who can identify the trees species. Although I know a lot of trees from many places I’m not familiar with the flora of Bangladesh.
Isn’t there some institute or organisation that can help answering the question?

Actually, as my vacation was over, so I did not get enough time to consult with any botanic about the identity of this tree @Erik_van_den_Ham Next time I will keep it in my mind and will try my best consult with the botanic teacher of the local college and I hope I will be able to identify the name of this. The name of the tree is really unknown to all the people of my area @Sophia_Cambodia and for this reason, its name is the Unknown Tree. The tree looks exactly like a banyan tree to me. However, other small weeds have grown on the surface of the tree. Thanks for sharing this unknown tree with us.

Hi @MukulR to me (not a botanist!) that looks like a Strangler Fig or something like it on another tree. The strangler fig usually starts out when a bird eats one of the fruit and drops a poo into a place high up on another tree in a fork where there is some decomposed material. The Strangler Fig then grows and gradually descends the other tree to the ground all the time it grows it chokes its host tree until it dies.
I am not a good photographer at all @Sophia_Cambodia Moreover, when I took the photo of the tree then curious people gathered surrounding me and I felt nervous. So most of the photos are blur and shaky. Anyway, you can see the below photo which seems closer to me.
@Erik_van_den_Ham When I will go to my village again I must find a name (real name) of this unknown tree and will let you know for sure.
This is a years-old tree @Aslam_hossain For this reason weed have grown here and there of the tree. But two main branches of the tree are still there. Though it looks like a banyan tree the leaf of this tree is longer than the banyan leaf. Thanks for your nice comments and observation. Regards.
Thanks for your keen observation @PaulPavlinovich . Though there is a stranger fig in this tree, the main tree is also still alive in the middle and it has two big branches also. I will visit this tree one more time to observe this tree closely. Best Regards
