As an amateur photographer, I really enjoyed my trip to Rome, Italy. Rome is a city full of historical sites that span over 2,000 years of history and include amazing attractions such as the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, the Pyramid of Cestius, and San Clemente.
You walked all over Rome, taking pictures of these landmarks and more. You started from the Vatican, the smallest country in the world and the seat of the Catholic Church. You marveled at the Sistine Chapel, the St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Vatican Museums. You also saw the Castel Sant’Angelo, a fortress that was once a mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian.
You then crossed the Tiber River and headed to the Pantheon, one of the best-preserved ancient buildings in Rome. You admired its dome, its oculus, and its columns. You also tossed a coin into the Trevi Fountain, the largest and most famous fountain in Rome. You made a wish to return to Rome someday.
You continued your walk to the Piazza Navona, a lively square with three beautiful fountains and a baroque church. You enjoyed the street performers, artists, and vendors. You also visited the Campo de’ Fiori, a colorful market square with a statue of Giordano Bruno, a philosopher who was burned at the stake for heresy.
You then reached the Colosseum, the symbol of Rome and one of the wonders of the world. You were amazed by its size, its architecture, and its history. You learned that it was used for gladiatorial contests, wild beast hunts, and other spectacles. You also explored the Roman Forum, the center of ancient Rome’s political, religious, and social life. You saw temples, arches, basilicas, and monuments.
You climbed up to the Palatine Hill, where you had a panoramic view of Rome. You walked among the ruins of imperial palaces and gardens. You imagined what it was like to live as an emperor or a noble. You also visited the Pyramid of Cestius a white mausoleum built in the 1st century BCE by a wealthy Roman who was fascinated by Egypt.
You ended your trip with a visit to San Clemente, a unique church that has three layers of history: a 12th-century basilica, a 4th-century church, and a 1st-century pagan temple. You were impressed by its frescoes, mosaics, and underground discoveries.
You took hundreds of pictures during your four days in Rome. You captured its beauty, its history, and its culture. You had an unforgettable experience as a traveling photographer.
