The Tale Behind Lucknow's Unique Bada Mangal Celebration!

Bada Mangal: A Unique Festival in Lucknow
Bada Mangal, also known as Budhwa Mangal, is a Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Hanuman, celebrated with great enthusiasm in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. This festival is unique to Lucknow and is a symbol of the city’s Tehzeeb, representing the harmonious blend of Hindu and Muslim cultures.
Significance and History
Celebrated every Tuesday of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha (typically in May or June), Bada Mangal commemorates the meeting of Lord Rama and Hanuman. The tradition of celebrating Bada Mangal dates back to the reign of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan of Awadh (1798-1814). According to legends, the Nawab’s son, Mohammad Ali Shah, fell seriously ill, and despite all efforts, his condition did not improve. Someone suggested seeking blessings for his son’s recovery from Hanuman Ji at the Hanuman temple in Aliganj, Lucknow. The son recovered miraculously after seeking blessings. In gratitude, the Nawab’s wife promised to build a temple. The construction was completed in the Jyeshtha month, and since then, Bada Mangal has been celebrated.

In Lucknow Bada Mangal is celebrated at very big Level. You can find Bhandaras everywhere on each Mangal (Tuesday) of Jyeshtha Month.
Some places of Lucknow the Bhandaras Prasad distributed available for whole Jyeshtha Month.
