Google is really doing its best to destroy their services. We just got an announcement in the new Street View trusted board about changes in the Street View app. In those changes there is the removal of functionalities such as:
- rights transfer (to transfer panoramas to another account)
- automated connection between panoramas
- manual placement and connectivity
That’s right! One of the rare useful features of this app, the ability to place and connect panoramas on the map, is going away! Now this app is only good for publishing stand-alone panoramas without any connection, basically casual panorama creation and publication… when the app won’t mess up the panorama stitching.
The best part is that they push us to use those third-party apps to publish panoramas… apps that cost money because they have to use the Maps API which is not free. Remember in 2018 Google multiplied those prices by 14 and in the past they removed the desktop tool… Always more money for them.
Note that they announce this right after they closed the Street View board… and that we can’t share and communicate on the new help desk.
Conclusion: not only the app is getting completely useless but on top of this we have to pay Google to provide them free data they’ll use to make even more money. Can Google be even more greedy than this? (Apparently yes. They keep surprising me every time). What a shame.
