The story of Google Maps and I.

I’m a Sri Lankan. Let me start there. Because being in Sri Lanka means, you get to experience the warm ocean breeze and the cold misty winds, within a span of merely few hours. Sri Lanka is a small island in the Indian ocean with so much diversity in climate, vegetation and also in the traditions among the communities. Having a history of more than 2600 years, and being a Buddhist country for just that long, my country holds many places of historical values and importance.

Being a traveler, who likes to see a new place every day, has given me the opportunity to see so many places in this beautiful country.

Traveling was never something I had to choose. It has always been a thing in our family for as long as I can remember. Any holiday or vacation, or simply a day off, is a day for my parents, my sister and I, to get in the vehicle and drive till we find a place to see. Sometimes we plan, book lodgings and spend days for trips and others we just travel as far as time permits.

Having been doing this for 22 years of my life, I believe is the reason why I have so many pictures of so many places in Sri Lanka and so much knowledge about them.

Google Maps started being of great help to me to find so many places, throughout the years. But it was only around a year ago that I found out about Google Local Guide. I uploaded all the photos I have collected so far, and I have been uploading photos, writing reviews, answering questions and adding places to google maps ever since.

After uploading photos and writing reviews, I got to see a number of people, well, thousands of people, view my photos and reviews. It makes me happy to know that I have helped more people like me to travel and see this beautiful island. I hope to keep contributing to see more and more people go through my photos and reviews, and I also hope to contribute more to Google Maps, for it has been with me on my journeys for quite some time.
