The Statue of Unity is a colossal statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a prominent leader and statesman of India who played a key role in India’s struggle for independence and later served as the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of independent India.
Located in the western Indian state of Gujarat, the statue stands at a height of 182 meters (597 feet), making it the tallest statue in the world. The statue was inaugurated on October 31, 2018, on the occasion of Patel’s 143rd birth anniversary.
The statue is made of bronze and is supported by a concrete and steel structure. It is situated on an island in the Narmada River, facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam. The statue is intended to serve as a tribute to Patel’s legacy and as a symbol of national unity and integration. It also serves as a tourist attraction, with a viewing gallery at a height of 153 meters (502 feet) offering panoramic views of the surrounding area.
