The Sri Mateshwari Tanot Rai Mandir is only 10 kilometers from the western border of India and 50 km from the site of the Battle of Longewala of the Indo-Pakistani War.
It was not at all crowded when I visited there on 16-Jan-2021 since I reached there after 4 pm when most devotees had left. There are very few shops around and barely any restaurant. The temple is managed and maintained by Border Security Force or BSF Trust and this is the roadside entrance of the temple where there are also shoe racks though socks are allowed inside the temple.
This is the view of the gate from inside displaying the Tanot victory pillar and also the place where one has to exit.
En route, I got beautiful views of the Thar desert like these sand dunes through which the road was passing.
At some places, the sand dunes had encroached the road.
Another view is of a solitary tree in the midst of the barren desert.
This is the entrance to the shrine or Garbhgruh.
A long passage leads to the idol of the deity.
And I noticed that the bells get higher and higher as I move ahead.
HereтАЩs the photo of Mateshwari Tanot Rai.
Nearby on display are the original shells that were fired by the Pakistani army during the battle of 1965 but people believe that due to the influence of the Goddess they never exploded and were later diffused by the Indian Army.
Outside the temple is an old well that is covered and is nicely decorated with colorful stripes.
Also, there is a free drinking water cooler.
Outside the main gate is ample parking space and lots of shops and far away is the road that comes from Longewala and ends up in the temple campus as this is the last place on the Indian border.
Inside the temple are residences or Dharmashalas behind which are elaborate toilets and washrooms that have well-paved paths and are fully accessible.
Have you been to a temple that had an exciting story attached to it? IтАЩd love to see a photo of it and also your experiences at the place.
Until thenтАж Happy Guiding ?
