"The Sky & Clouds" Part -1- Mother Nature's Gift - Mobile Photography Tips with Photos - TravellerG

Photo: #1, Caption: Cover Photo - A rainbow at Sheveroys Hill, Yercaud, India.

Hello LG friends,

This post was inspired by our @renata1 through her this post and my friend @OliverKIWI

It has been a long time since I published ‘Tips’ on Photography… here are two of them about “Sky & Clouds”… The 1st post is with “Tips on Mobile Photography & the 2nd with Tips on Digital Photography

The “Sky and Clouds” have inspired many photographers, poets, artists, writers, scientists, etc.; and, for that reason, influenced every living being - the dance of a peacock is a classic example… right?. Cloudy and grey days make us feel gloomy and sad whereas bright and sunny days make us feel happy.

I feel that all of us have tried capturing the Sky & Clouds… is it not? I request you add your “Sky/Cloud” photos in the comments, please.

Here are some shots which have been shot during different times of the day, which evoke a variety of moods - hope you will like them. I have provided the EXIF along with the date & time so that one can visualise the ‘feel’, more.

And now, coming to the TIPS:

Firstly, I request my fellow photographers to add your “Tips” in the comments, so that I can add them to the main post, giving credit to you.

I have tried my best not to go very technical - but still, if you have any doubts, I will be happy to assist you.

Let me be frank with you - I am an unorthodox/unconventional photographer, though I firmly believe in & obey all the Photographic Foundation Rules; with my decades of experience in both film & digital photography, I have been following the guidelines below for “Sky & Clouds” photography:

When it comes to Mobile photography, I shoot both in Auto & Manual Modes:

  • In Auto mode, usually, I try to focus on the horizon & slowly move the mobile from a lower (darker) point towards the sun - I shoot once my composition is good for me - or even I move the mobile a little down or up, once more.
  • In Manual mode, I experiment with different “White Balance” & “ISO” (I don’t go above ISO 800)… Read More

My dear photography friends, @AdamGT @TerryPG @Sagir , @Danielzunino @AZ_2021 @Anil6969 @TusharSuradkar - your comments and feedback will be helpful to do more in the future.

Also, can I request friend @DeniGu to give your feedback on such posts?

  1. @TravellerG great post with lots of pics from different devices and lenses few of mobile shots were better than the dslrs i noticed .

A bit of Composition would give them a more professional looking or to be framed on wall as art.

Excellent question, my dear @RoshanBajpaiLG

This is Sony’s nomenclature for explaining their Lens:
G stands for:

Sony’s own “G Lens” - designed & manufactured by Sony with the highest standards of optical performance. These lenses also maximise sharpness, clarity, auto-focus speed & many more features.
And of course, they are extremely costly in ‘Full-Frame’ lenses.
OSS stands for:

Optical Steady Shot - this is a complex ‘Gimbal’ stabilisation system which is much more stable/effective & highly accurate than the usual Optical Stabilisation (OS).
Hope, I am clear to you.
These are usually marked on the rim of the Lenses.

Dear @RoshanBajpaiLG & @enkannan

The Lens mentioned by our Enkannan is 70-200 mm, f/4 from 70 to 200 is a lens, I regularly use & one of the best one Sony has manufactured.

Very sharp & Steady.

Usually, at 200 mm, the lens tends to shake - but this is excellent.

Thanks dear friend @TravellerG for the photographic suggestions you gave me, especially those with a traditional camera. Much more difficult to try to understand what the parameters on the 35 mm would be from the exposure data of a mobile phone, which as is known, are strongly influenced by the size of the sensor and the lens. I’m glad to see that you also use a Sony Alpha 6000 which I love to use on bike trips due to its light weight. It only has the defect that the sensor gets very dirty, sometimes causing the appearance of spots on the sky, something I always have to pay close attention to. Hello from your friend Paolo
