The Google Local Guides program is a boon to every aspiring individual, who wants to make it big in life. Talking about Google products, I preferred using most of them for purposes that were pretty much professional. For example, I still use Gmail extensively for writing work emails and for applying to jobs while the use of Docs is quite limited. YouTube of course if for entertainment. However, I started using Maps only a couple of years back when I came across the idea of Local Guides. The concept was appealing to me, as it covered all aspects of travel quite extensively. The more I explored, the better I became at helping people and discovering places. My zeal to cover every level in the Google Maps is one of the reasons I also got introduced to the #LocalGuidesConnect program and it opened up a Pandora’s box for me. Being a Local Guide at level 7, it’s really fascinating for me to reflect on the journey that led me to this stage in my life as a top contributor. Using the Local Guides platform, I have gained unimaginable useful information (while sharing equal amount of info with my fellow guides) and developed a niche in many areas that were earlier unknown to me. For instance, before using Maps, I would visit places as a mediocre person who would just click few pictures, eat some food and head back home. But when I saw the same places as a Google Local Guide, it gave me a bigger purpose and a lovely perspective. The hobby had now transformed into a reason, which was to help as many people as I can to find solutions to their travel, food and accommodation related challenges. Not to forget the perspective part, where I was now trying to capture the minutest details of a place (ranging from missing places, important facts to detailed pictures) and describing them in a simple yet comprehensive way. The cherry on the cake turned out to be the Connect Live event that gives a limited set of guides the opportunity to learn, at the same time spread awareness. Hope to be there in October 2020. Peace!
