Mostly i love to visit places which are rich in nature, away from hectic city life. I am an avid nature lover.
Last month i visited Shekha Bird Sanctuary
This is a beautiful freshwater wetland which serves as a paradise for both local and migratory bird as well as for bird watchers and nature lovers like me. This is present 17km east of the ‘Aligarh’ city.
How to reach:- Easily accessible by both public and private transports. Private transport is more convenient.
Information:- Opening hours(09:00AM-04:00PM)
Entry fee:- INR 30 per person.
Best time to visit is between october and march, in between these months you can watch many migratory birds.
There are three tall towers present in this wetland, each tower can accomodate upto four persons at a time.
I took this picture from top of the first tower which is present just near the entrance.
There is a trail present around the wetland for walking around and watching bird and natural sceneries. Earlier because of lack of fencing, villagers and other animals used to disturb the birds but now the entire area is fenced which prevent intruders from entering the wetland.
When we reach the centre of the wetland, we get to see a marsh area.
The trail is not easy for everyone as some of its area is covered by large shrubs and bushes.
After walking through one side of the trail, i reached the ‘Shekha Lake’ which is also know as Shekha Jheel among locals. It is a lake which is flows adjacent to the wetland area.
After walking past the lake, continuing along the trail we reach the other side of the wetland. Most of the birds spend their time at that area.
More than 150+ species of birds are available to watch, vest time to visit it is between october to march.
I got to see a lot of local and migratory birds like Wooly necked stork, purple moorhen, common pochard, black headed ibis’s, cormorants, etc.
So many other animal like snakes, squirrels, jackals, etc also live in this area.
For safety purposes a guard circles around the area every hour.
If you’re a nature lover and you live or willing to visit ‘Aligarh’ area, then this place is a must visit.
There is so much joy in watching birds in their natural habitat.
Greetings from India.
