Many European tourists are planning their trips to the Canary Islands just to be surprised by International or local lockdown rules imposed due to Covid.
To be honest I have personally seen an uptick on tourism and it’s been the smart ones which avoid tour operators and such.
The Covid situation in Gran Canaria for example is non existing. Main focus points rely in old local towns in the north and have nothing to do with tourist hot spots. Many people fear that their holidays will be cancelled and no refund will be given.
The best we can hope for is people opting for local accommodation- as in homes and airbnb over hotels, not only it helps boost the economy it’s an experience of actually living abroad than just staying sheltered in a hotel.
The recent tourism I’ve seen are actually living in private homes and exploring the island by car, eating at new places and enjoying life like a local. Not that hotels and all inclusive are a bad experience, however with the world “restarting” wouldn’t you want to shake things up a bit?
The local rules now only require masks when in congested areas where distance of 1.5m can not be mantained- just your own common sense.
Bars and Restaurants are all operating normally.
For the returning tourists or first time visitors -
- Rent a private accommodation, you won’t have to worry about Covid.
- Masks are only compulsary in common sense scenarios
- Hire a car and explore the island, you’ve got 4G and this is a well indicated country
- I don’t use tripadvisor, it’s good to find things to do, however the reviews couldn’t be any more unreliable. Instead, asks local for things that locals do and avoid tourist places.
- enjoy this quiet summer, most likely to be the last peaceful one in a long time.
