The Reason Why I Love Sharing on Google Maps

Let me begin with a true story that happened more than a decade ago. I can’t remember the particular date but it happened in Bacolod City. I was looking for a particular place. Since I am not a local, I turned to Google Maps to help me find it. Alas! It was listed on Google Maps and it said that I only have to walk about a few blocks more. I was really happy with the thought of just walking a bit more to reach my destination. Besides, a little exercise would be good. So I walked… and walked… and walked a bit more… and I haven’t found the place. I looked at the map and it says I only need to walk past two big blocks and I will reach my destination! But still, I wasn’t at the location I wanted to go. So I walked a bit more and finally found the place I have been searching. That is when I discovered that the map wasn’t complete. It needed a lot of work to map the city accurately.

Fast forward in 2017, I visited Bacolod City again and used Google Maps. And guess what? The majority of the place have been mapped already. The missing streets in between the location I wanted to visit before are already there. I can now navigate Bacolod City with ease!

And now, not only Bacolod City, or my city Cagayan de Oro, but to all the places around the world, I can confidently say that I can navigate with ease, thanks to Google Maps and thanks to all the Local Guides (and those who started as Google Map Makers) that helped map their cities accurately for FREE and with LOVE! And I am so happy that I am one of them!

The Reason Why I Love Sharing on Google Maps: It makes the world a better place by helping locals and tourists navigate cities with ease.

My contribution helps…

  1. …in preventing people from getting lost.

  2. …in planning itinerary for tourists.

  3. …in locating places in unfamiliar locations.

  4. …parents understand their children’s whereabouts.

  5. …in many many ways depending on your map needs!
