Hence, there is a radical shift as the conventional ways of doing a lot of things have been altered. One thing that will help us to cope or survive the complexity in the post Covid-19 world is to become more sophisticated in the area of technology. Almost every sphere of human activities has witnessed a fundamental change in the ways things are done. Honestly, the convid-19 pandemic has altered the conventional ways of doing things as almost every sphere of human life is now driven by technology. The latest trend is the emergence of more cutting edge technology to aid us in our everyday activities like business, health, transport, communication and education etc. In the post covid-19 world almost everything is done virtually or online over the internet.
There has been a digital surge as a lot of individuals and organizations are leveraging on technology to drive their activities and businesses. The Google local guides community is not left out in this. With the lockdown and social distancing albeit physical distancing in place we have witnessed the use of technology in most of our local guides’ activities. Virtual meet up has become the trend now as there are many of them taking place on daily and weekly within the local guides’ community. The big tech companies are busy churning out sophisticated tech products to support our activities as local guides. Recently, our own dear Google released a video conferencing app called Google Meet that can accommodate up to two hundred and fifty persons.
This to me is a major breakthrough, while maintaining the physical distancing we can still connect socially with local guides across the globe sharing and exchanging vital ideas that will help us. The Google meet app is a game changer as far virtual meet up and social connection of local guides are concerned. I once attended a virtual meet up conducted on Google hang out but because the number of participants on hang out was limited and a lot of local guides wanted to join but could not. Immediately, we had to switch over to Google meet to accommodate and allow a great number of local guides to join. It terms of capacity and efficiency the Google meet has lived up to expectation as far as virtual meet up is concerned.
Here on connect there has been an incorporation of some features to help local guides seamlessly connect socially while still maintaining the physical distancing. In my opinion the post covid-19 local guide must be sophisticated in terms of technology. We must all get a little techie. Digital literacy is a requirement of the post covid-19 local guide. My advice to every local guide is to acquaint yourself with knowledge of these cutting edge technologies. At least a basic knowledge of these technologies will help you to succeed as a local in this post covid-19 era.
