In Santa Cruz, Bolivia, winter is one of the most colorful seasons of the year. Even though some days are really cold and cloudy, we still can enjoy the sun, and the beautiful ‘Tajibos’ trees.
A Tajibo tree (its scientific name is Tabebuia) is an emblematic tree of our city. In fact, all Tajibo’s tree species were declared natural heritage of Santa Cruz, and we celebrate the ‘Tajibo Day’ each 1st of September. Tajibos are from different colors, pink, yellow, purple and even white, but the pink one is the most popular, because you can find pink Tajibos everywhere in the city, thanks to Noel Kempff, a biologist who planted these trees in streets and squares of Santa Cruz de La Sierra.
The tree blooms in winter and spring season, and their flowers are delicate. People love to take pictures of the Tajibos, that is why in Twitter they started the #TajiboChallenge where people share their best photos of these beautiful trees. You definitely should see those pictures!
This is my first post here in Connect, and I hope you have enjoyed to read a little bit about the Tajibo tree. I’m planning to make a list with the best places to watch these trees, as they bloom until September.
Thanks for sharing your photos of Tajibo tree. It really is beautiful and am eager to see more pictures. I am expecting a post about the holiday on 1st September.
