Gondal was once one of the eight princely states of Kathiawar before the Indian ndependence. The rulers had a fascination for cars for which Gondal had the best-planned road system in Gujarat. In 1643 AD, Gondal was founded by Thakore Shri Kumbhoji I Meramanji and then came into prominence during the time of Sir Bhagvat Sinhji, who ruled Gondal till Independence. Gondal lies close to Rajkot which is well connected by road to various cities of Gujarat. There are various state transport buses that ply from Rajkot to its nearby cities and villages.
Huzoor Palace : This palace with beautiful spread of green lawns, flower gardens and fruiting trees is called the Orchard Palace. Only one room which houses miniature paintings, brass, and antique furniture is open to the public as the other part of the palace is occupied by the blood relatives of the royal family.
Naulakha Palace : The 17th century Navlakha palace with delicate designs and beautifully decorated staircases exhibits its great architectural excellence in style. The interior of Dabargarh palace alias Navlakha palace is open to the public which showcases the true royal culture and is a very good example for the artistic talents of the then generation. Expensive chandeliers, antique furniture, mirrors and stuffed lions and tigers adorn the court house.
Riverside Palace : River Side Palace was constructed in the year 1875. This royal palace is now converted into a star hotel. The palace is beautifully decorated by all antique and expensive imported articals. This is a must visit place.
