Rossland Island also known as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island is one of 572 Islands of Andaman and Nicobar. It is situated at the juncture of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. It belongs to South Andaman Administrative Distt. It is only 3 kms away from Port Blair. All of the Islands of Andaman and Nicobar are very beautiful and natural but Rossland Island is best one of them. The island was remained under the control of British except the period of 2nd World War from 1942 to 1945. Japanese were taken over the control during this period. They had built bunkers for their soldiers, homes for their families, church, shops, tennis courts, store, printing press, bakery, mineral water plant etc. Most of them were destroyed due to nature of climate and improper care. Now remaining of them have maintained by the Astrological Survey of India and now in a well shape.
People from all over the world come here to see these natural places during whole of the year. Summer season is like by the people who have interested in water games whereas in the winter season people those likes to live alone for some moments. Rainy season is also likes by the most of people. 2 or 3 hours are enough to visit here. Timings of visit in this Island is from sunrise to sunset. Local ferries are easily available to reach at this Island from Port Blair. whereas Port Blair is well connected by air from all major cities of India. There is no any fees to visit in this Island. On the top of the Island you can have a view of the sea and also takes romantic pics. You can also see deers, peacocks and ducks. On the one whistle or calling they came near to you and started to dance and eating as given by you. Presently this is under the control of Indian Navy. Rossland is named after British marine surveyor Mr. Daniel Ross. British developed this island with so much vigour that it earned the epithet of “The Paris of the East”. I never forget the moment which I spent there.
