A Palanquin is a covered litter for one passenger, consisting of a large box carried on two horizontal poles by four or six bearers.
The Palanquin Gallery in the Bikaner Palace Museum is a marvel of the glorious history of India.
The Bikaner Fort has a special exhibit for these human powered transport systems called Palkis.
They are well-crafted, decorated ornately, and available in all shapes and sizes.
The one displayed below carried two people - a queen and a king probably.
This one looks like a throne or a seat for the courtier but is an open palanquin.
The palanquin below was mounted on an elephant and carried two people at a time.
How to Reach
I drove to Bikaner in a car.
But this city is well connected to all major towns via railway and flight.
Where to Eat
I had Indian Assorted Thali at Jeeman Restaurant Tasty Rajasthan food
Where to Stay
I stayed at the Hotel Bhairon Vilas - great value for money.

That’s really interesting… dear @TusharSuradkar ,
Each palanquin is crafted differently!
Twin Palanquins look really great! Seen similar ones, earlier, may be in Mysore Palace…
Interesting topic…I specially loved it because of your photos - great!
Thanks for sharing these with us.

Sehr schöne Aufnahmen von diesen Sänften mit den unterschiedlichsten Gestaltungen.
Als moderner Mensch kann man sich schwer vorstellen so herumgetragen zu werden

Thank you @TravellerG for your kind appreciation.
Though I am a bit ashamed of the poor photographs - I neither had a good camera nor an inclination towards getting the best shots.
My tendency back then was to click as you walk and gather as many photos as possible of the place
But now with your tips about photography shared over the past few months I am steadily increasing the quality

Thank you @Annaelisa for the appreciation.
And the response to your remark is in the answer by @Ru_pali4
The palanquins are now reserved for holy figures like saints or sometimes they carry books of religious importance.
But it remains out of bounds for common humans and also for VIPs.
Thank you for the appreciation Rupali

“…gather as many photos as possible of the place…”
That’s also a style a few people follow…
However, it’s better to follow some basics …
Even simple things like switching on the Grid Line can help a lot to Frame/ Aligne a shot properly.
Thanks for your kind compliments…

@TusharSuradkar The Palanquin Gallery Walk appears amazing, and every picture highlights its unique history and beauty. I know that Bikaner is well-known for its camel city and Karni Mata Rat Temple, two other notable aspects of its unique history. The historical palkis looks amazing and demonstrates how skilled the carvers were at that period. The two people palkis look stunning
