The Nuba Embrace

The sculpture stands oddly in a field beside a dilapidated barn near the village of Checkendon South Oxfordshire. Its surrounded by fields, there are no signs to lead you to it and the satnav will take you to a dirt road leading to someones farm. I caught a glimpse of the head of the sculpture in the distance so knew I had to turn back to find it.

The sculpture was created by local artist John Buckley, it is of two skeletons embracing and depicts the plight of the Nuba people from the Nuba Mountains in Sudan. More can be found out about this sculpture and the people it represents by researching.

I only managed to get one good photo of the sculpture as my camera battery died, but there are plenty more on the net if you are interested.

I found it a very powerful image, it affected me and made me want to find out more.

Hello @bicestersnapper ,

Thank you for sharing this great sculpture with us. Personally, I’ve never heard about it before.

I like such kind of art which is in the air and accessible to everyone, no need to pay for it or wait hours and hours before entering a museum.
