The next generation of cities

Anyone that isn’t living under a rock is probably noticing that the evolution of cities is going at light speed. Madrid in particular is one of those that is undeniably including anti-polluting measures, becoming energy efficient, encouraging users to stop burning fossil fuels, investing in public transport and modernising the metro lines that are a bit behind quite fast.

It’s no wonder that at the speed everything is going on, many people are struck and all of a sudden surprised that this new model of city, this next generation of metropolis isn’t compatible anymore with their lifestyles. That’s understandable but that’s exactly what happened to another generation 30 years ago when the internet was becoming a more widespread thing, isn’t it? Inevitably, there are always going to be changes and not always progressively, that’s a fact.

Here in Madrid, we pride ourselves of having one of the best metros, if not the best, in Europe and one of the best in the world. Some stations have museums, others are a few steps away from the train line you need to catch, others have literal works of art in them. Let’s keep growing as a city in quantity as well as in quality so that this new version of Madrid can be a little more fitting to what is required in the XXI century and when doing so, let us make the transition be as gentle for everybody as possible too.

Out here, writing from one of the best cities in the world, a local guide by the name of Jorge Potti. Let’s make this world a better place every day
