The Name Game - September, 2023

Overview

This post follows on from the August 2023 Name Game post and continues on with the Who am I twist. In my signature below is a GIF containing thumbnail photos of Local Guides here on Connect. You will also see in the body of this post a set of clues about these Local Guides, and referred to as the Who am I clues. Your challenge, should you accept it, is to firstly name these Local Guides and secondly, match the clues with them.

The Rules & Conditions of Entry

So that we don’t have a bust up at the end, here are the rules of the game!

1. Hit this link,

2. Add “The Name Game - September, 2023” as the Message Subject

3. Copy and paste the following in the opening comment to your message > Here are my answers to the September Name Game

4. Add your answers in the form of a list numbered 1 to 8 with your guess for the name (Connect username and not the personal name and without the @) of each Local Guide as they appear from left to right in the GIF.

5. Against each of your Local Guide name answers, enter in brackets the letter ID (A,B,C…or H) of the clue from the Who am I clues listed below that you believe best fits that Local Guide. For example, if you think that the first Local Guide is myself and from the list of clues the one having an ID of C best fits me then you would show your answer as follows:

6. Select the Send Message button.

7. Each name you get right earns you 1 point but you must get the order right so for example if you say that the 2nd person in the GIF is me but in actual fact I’m the 6th person then you don’t get the point.

8. If you get all 8 names correct and in the right order you will earn a bonus of 2 points

9. For each Who am I clues that you attribute to the right Local Guide you get bonus points as follows:

   So if you get 1 right you get 1 bonus point. If you get 5 right you get 8 bonus point. If you get all 8 right you get the maximum 34 bonus points. Therefore, as you can see, the maximum number of points you can get in this round of the Name Game is 44 points (10 points for part (a) and 34 points for part (b))!

10. Now because we missed having the July Name Game, whatever points you get for August will be doubled!!! So, if you get 23 total points for naming the Local Guide and the Who am I clues, then your points for August will be 46 and given this, the maximum points you can earn in August is 88 now is that awesome!!! This really gives others @Rednewt74 (see here) and new entrants a chance to not only catch up but to jump to the top

11. If you can’t work it out or are uncertain then at least have a guess. You just never know, you might guess right

12. Once your entry is received and checked, your points will be added to the table shown below. Local Guide points to date are also shown in this table and entries will be made in order of submission and total points to date.

13. Points are carried forward through to the end of the year and the Local Guide(s) with the highest points at the end of the year will be declared the winner(s) and get the final kudos

14. Entry is open to all Local Guides but only one entry per Local Guide is allowed!

15. Entries of anyone caught cheating, like copying someone else’s answers or colluding will not be counted and would lead to your instant disqualification from the round

16. Entries close at the end of September or when the October Name Game post is posted which ever is the latest.

17. These rules can change at any time

18. The judge’s (moi’s) decision is final!

Who am I clues. In no particular order…

Notes:

2. Yes we do have leaders but still it’s a close game and there’s still time for anyone to end up the outright winner

@AdamGT excited for a new round of The Name Game. However this seems a bit confusing… In the clues you have added a negative (I am not…), and it makes it very misleading…

For example, your clue 'I’m not the coffee snob amongst the 8 Local Guides in the GIF. ’ would only make sense if 7 of the 8 are coffee snobs and only 1 is not. Otherwise, clue C could be used for 7 out of the 8 answers and would still be correct. No?

I agree with @EvaBar that I think the clues are somewhat misleading as well. As a relatively new LG I’m enjoying participating and the Name Game is just so much fun

However having said that you have created a monster - I cannot stop looking I’m like a dog with a bone :):)

So sorry @EvaBar and thank you for shouting out again. What on earth was I thinking. Both you and @IzzyOz are of course right…and yes indeed @Mo_TravelleerX it’s more interesting but the problem is it required an almost bottomless deep dig. My bad Please see the revised Who am I clues

Well after theshemozzle I made with the Who am I clues, we’re finally off and running and I see that both @Mo_TravelleerX and @EvaBar were very quick off the mark, just minutes after each other, and snagged the lead. Now with only 2 more easy rounds to go before the BIG final decider, and you can bet it will be an interesting final round haha, you’d want to make sure that you are not to far from the lead but not necessarily in the lead to win this. A good gauge on this would be say not less than half the points of the leader. And yes, it’s very much still an open game

I understand you’ve had some time constraints this month @Mikeinthefalls but it’s great to see that you’ve had a go as every single point counts and can make a BIG difference during the deciding end game, so hang in there and do what you can.

Now @MelTG with only a few hours left to go see if you can do the same and at least get a few more points under your belt. Well done to all others who managed to crack 44 points including late runners @TerryPG and @JustJake .

LOL @MelTG . Firstly, great that you sent even the few answers that you had, every point counts. A good idea with this sort of thing is to start as early as you can in the month. To find the answers it really is simply a matter of strategy Have no fear, you still have a chance to be the outright winner

As stated in rule #16, entries close at the end of September or when the October Name Game post is posted which ever is the latest so given that we’re now reaching the very end, and given that some are time poor and given that the difficulty seems to be increasing, I’ll say yes to that @MelTG and furthermore, you can totally revise your previous entry…now how good is that!!!
