The Name Game - November, 2023

Who am I.gif

Overview

This post follows on from the October 2023 Name Game post and continues on with the Who am I twist. In my signature below is a GIF containing thumbnail photos of Local Guides here on Connect. You will also see in the body of this post a set of clues about these Local Guides, and referred to as the Who am I clues. Your challenge, should you accept it, is to firstly name these Local Guides and secondly, match the clues with them.

The Rules & Conditions of Entry

So that we don’t have a bust up at the end, here are the rules of the game!

  1. Hit this link,

  2. Add “The Name Game - November, 2023” as the Message Subject

  3. Copy and paste the following in the opening comment to your message > Here are my answers to the November Name Game (note that this is a link to the current Name Game post).

  4. Add your answers in the form of a list numbered 1 to 8 with your guess for the name (Connect username and not the personal name and without the @) of each Local Guide as they appear from left to right in the GIF.

  5. Against each of your Local Guide name answers, enter in brackets the letter ID (A,B,C…or H) of the clue from the Who am I clues listed below that you believe best fits that Local Guide. For example, if you think that the first Local Guide is myself and from the list of clues the one having an ID of C best fits me then you would show your answer as follows:

    1 - AdamGT (C)

  6. Select the Send Message button.

  7. New Points: Each name you get right earns you 2 points but you must get the order right so for example if you say that the 2nd person in the GIF is me but in actual fact I’m the 6th person then you don’t get the point.

  8. If you get all 8 names correct and in the right order you will earn a bonus of 4 points :slightly_smiling_face:

  9. For each Who am I clues that you attribute to the right Local Guide you get bonus points as follows:

    No of correct
    Who am I clues
    No of
    Bonus points
    1 1
    2 2
    3 3
    4 5
    5 8
    6 13
    7 21
    8 34

So if you get 1 right you get 1 bonus point. If you get 5 right you get 8 bonus point. If you get all 8 right you get the maximum 34 bonus points. Therefore, as you can see, the maximum number of points you can get in this round of the Name Game is 54 points (20 points for part (a) and 34 points for part (b))!

  10. If you can’t work it out or are uncertain then at least have a guess. You just never know, you might guess right

  11. Once your entry is received and checked, your points will be added to the table shown below. Local Guide points to date are also shown in this table and entries will be made in order of submission and total points to date.

  12. Points are carried forward through to the end of the year and the Local Guide(s) with the highest points at the end of the year will be declared the winner(s) and get the final kudos

  13. Entry is open to all Local Guides but only one entry per Local Guide is allowed!

  14. Entries of anyone caught cheating, like copying someone else’s answers or colluding will not be counted and would lead to your instant disqualification from the round :joy:   :sunglasses:

  15. Entries close at the end of September November or when the October December Name Game post, the final one is posted which ever is the latest.

  16. If you decide to change any part of your answer or add to it then you must resubmit the whole of your answer and not just the changes/additions you’ve made.

  17. These rules can change at any time

  18. The judge’s (moi’s) decision is final!

Who am I clues. In no particular order…

  1. I once wrote "Level 8 Local guide ??? is registered and loves the leaderboards! That’s very reassuring!**.

  2. I had heard about the Leaderboards here on Connect (and who hasn’t), but I took more of an interest after a detailed presentation during a well attended meetup. I was hooked and first appeared on the Leaderboards in August 2023. “I find it very motivating and seeing my name in the top 100 list for August 2023.”

  3. When I first appeared on the Leaderboards I had a photo views count of just over 141 million and since then, my average views per photo as shown on the latest leaderboards has more than doubled.

  4. Even though I’m totally obsessed with taking photos to upload to Google Maps and love Data, I only eratically updated my data for the Leaderboards after first appearing on them in 2021 with photo views of over 230 million. Notwithstanding, my views today are over 1/2 Billion.

  5. Like many, when I first joined the star photos leaderboards I mentioned that I uploaded so many beautiful pictures but my star photo of an appliance store in Argentina is not one of them haha.

  6. When I started on the Leaderboards I had 661 photos and just over 1,162,313 photo views with an Average Views/Photo of 1758. Today I have 1275 photo with 34,186,284 photo views and my star photo has almost 4.6 Million views. :grinning:

  7. I joined the Leaderboards with a star photo taken on September 2017 that had an impressive over 15 Million views back in 2021.

  8. I am a professional photographer and started on the Leaderboards with a star photo of a small bakery having just over 2 Million star views as at 18 August 2021

Notes:

  1. If you want to be one of the “face” participants in The Name Game, you must be a participant on the Top 100 Leaderboards (hint, hint). To learn more on how to register, see this How-to post by @AZ_2021 .
  2. Yes we do have leaders but still it’s a close game and there’s still time for anyone to end up the outright winner
  3. If you think this month’s Name Game was easy then wait until you see next month’s :sunglasses:

To @AdamGT I was going to comment but , I’m not saying anything for the moment

Hahaha @TerryPG , I love it. You are too funny. However, let me say it’s a precursor as to what’s to come  :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@AdamGT ,

Just curious whether you’re a ‘Fibonacci Guru’, or just happened to stumble on using Fib numbers for assigning points. - Steve

I’m impressed that you even noticed this @shunsader , well done you! No, it’s no stumble LOL.

@AdamGT ,

I know, it would be statistically improbable to assign that many increasing numbers for even one of them to not be a Fib number. I should do the math sometime (in Excel)…how many iterations does it take before adjacent Fib numbers are accurate to 61.8%…I’ll check the next time I get close to Excel. Nice idea using this variation on difficulty…that each step is awarded another 60% greater than one less correct answer. - Steve

Update: 34 is 61.9% greater than previous, and 55 is 61.74% greater. Anything after that is pretty much 'The Golden Ratio - 61.8%". - Steve

I couldn’t agree with you more @shunsader

It has certainly challenged some but surprisingly, no matter how difficult I have tried to make it, quite a few have the stubbornness of a mule dogged determination and the perseverance to get it right no matter what. It’s an endearing quality, really it is.

Yes eventually the Fib numbers converge to the golden ratio. As you will most likely know, it goes by several other names and has puzzled many since antiquity, including Pythagoras, Leonardo da Vinci and even Johannes Kepler. I love it’s application in both nature and architecture but for now, it’s The Name Game.

Well done @EvaBar not only are you first to score but you got another perfect score. Are you ready for the final round?

Well done @EvaBar on getting a perfect score but @AdamGT shouldn’t the score be 54 since there were a bonus 10 points up for grabs this month?

I’ve been going round in circles this month trying to figure them all out :cyclone:

Good catch @IzzyOz yes it should be 54 points. My bad but fixed now.

Thank you @IzzyOz for catching that and scoring me 10 more points :slightly_smiling_face:

If you get stuck (I know I did), I suggest leaving it for a few days and then looking at it with new eyes and new strength. It’ll all come together, don’t give up!

Thank you @AdamGT for the shoutout, it was tough this month, but the leaderboards sure did help

My pleasure @EvaBar :slightly_smiling_face:

Great advice too that I will take!

Fresh eyes and mind might just mean that I will get the perfect score too!

I have a real love/hate relationship with the Name Game, can’t stand to let it beat me

Did you say tough this month @EvaBar ? I don’t know about that given the perfect scores coming in just now by @JustJake and @TerryPG . Notwithstanding how close it still is, with what’s coming, anyone could be victorious…Just wait for the surprise in the coming finale. @katydarhel and I are already hard at work and it’s on the drawing board now. In the meantime, go Terry, well done you taking pole position which has been dominated in the rounds since June by @Trail_blazer and @Mo_TravelleerX . Hint, Hint: Do read the December rules carefully and as soon as the round is posted

What’s this love/hate relationship I hear you say @IzzyOz . I"ve had the longtime impression that everyone just loved, loved, loved the Name Game and especially all the twists and turns along the way.

Well @Mo_TravelleerX things are certainly interesting. Four entries so far and 4 perfect scores!!! Has this been made it too easy all this long? How will we shake things up? What do I have to do to get a clear cut winner

@AdamGT shoutout to who chose the clues this month, It me some time to remove some and match some " I was like using Probabilities in Math  "

This 1 point difference is driving me insane @Mo_TravelleerX @TerryPG

I’ve heard of lots of different ways of solving the puzzle @Mo_TravelleerX but never probability let alone maths. You just have to use nous.

I agree @JustJake . The split up is coming

Well done @IzzyOz , yet another perfect score. Given that you were a late starter, you are certainly doing well and if you had of been in this from the start I’d reckon this would have now been a totally different ball game now! But still, having said that, you’ve still got a chance

Dang Connect duplicated my last message!!!

I agree with you @JustJake I too get upset every time I see I am ONE point ahead of you, truly sorry, :sob:
