Overview

This post follows on from the June 2023 Name Game post and continues on with the Who am I twist. In my signature below is a GIF containing thumbnail photos of Local Guides here on Connect. You will also see in the body of this post a set of clues about these Local Guides, and referred to as the Who am I clues. You challenge, should you accept it, is to firstly name these Local Guides and secondly, match the clues with them.

The Rules & Conditions of Entry

So that we don’t have a bust up at the end, here are the rules of the game!

  1. Hit this link,

  2. Add “The Name Game - August, 2023” as the Message Subject

  3. Add your answers in the form of a list numbered 1 to 8 with your guess for the name (Connect username and not the personal name and without the @) of each Local Guide as they appear from left to right in the GIF.

  4. Against each of your Local Guide name answers, enter in brackets the letter ID (A,B,C…or H) of the clue from the Who am I clues listed below that you believe best fits that Local Guide. For example, if you think that the first Local Guide is myself and from the list of clues the one having an ID of C best fits me then you would show your answer as follows:

    1 - AdamGT (C)

  5. Select the Send Message button.

  6. Each name you get right earns you 1 point but you must get the order right so for example if you say that the 2nd person in the GIF is me but in actual fact I’m the 6th person then you don’t get the point.

  7. If you get all 8 names correct and in the right order you will earn a bonus of 2 points :slightly_smiling_face:

  8. For each Who am I clue that you attribute to the right Local Guide you get bonus points as follows:

    So if you get 1 right you get 1 bonus point. If you get 5 right you get 8 bonus point. If you get all 8 right you get the maximum 34 bonus points. Therefore, as you can see, the maximum number of points you can get in this round of the Name Game is 44 points (10 points for part (a) and 34 points for part (b))!

  9. Now because we missed having the July Name Game, whatever points you get for August will be doubled!!! So, if you get 23 total points for naming the Local Guide and the Who am I clues, then your points for August will be 46 and given this, the maximum points you can earn in August is 88 now is that awesome!!! This really gives others @Rednewt74 (see here) and new entrants a chance to not only catch up but to jump to the top :sunglasses:

  10. If you can’t work it out or are uncertain then at least have a guess. You just never know, you might guess right :wink:

  11. Once your entry is received and checked, your points will be added to the table shown below. Local Guide points to date are also shown in this table and entries will be made in order of submission and total points to date.

  12. Points are carried forward through to the end of the year and the Local Guide(s) with the highest points at the end of the year will be declared the winner(s) and get the final kudos :wink:

  13. Entry is open to all Local Guides but only one entry per Local Guide is allowed!

  14. Entries of anyone caught cheating, like copying someone else’s answers or colluding will not be counted and would lead to your instant disqualification from the round :joy: :rofl: :sweat_smile: :sunglasses:

  15. Entries close at the end of August or when the September Name Game post is posted which ever is the latest.

  16. These rules can change at any time :wink:

  17. The judge’s (moi’s) decision is final!

Who am I clues. In no particular order…

  1. My name is José and I’m from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. I like Local Guide Connect program and my photos have more than 125 million photo views.

  2. When former Google Contributor Katie McBroom asked me what hobbies had I learned or started while at home during COVID I told her that one of the four things I randomly started was yoga and I discovered parts of my body I didn’t know they exist!

  3. I love finding out secrets on menus and the perspective from other local guides. I also love the feedback that as a Local Guide, we can provide to help businesses!

  4. I’ve answered over 20,000 questions and checked over 11,000 facts on Maps. Not bad hey!!

  5. I have been contributing to Google Maps since 2017 and for a long time now I have wished to become a Google Connect Moderator but never got any message regarding connect moderator till date, this is kinda sad.

  6. I’m a Level 8 Local Guide from South Africa and believe that AI is the future like it or not so why not embrace it.

  7. I joined the leaderboards in late 2021 but haven’t updated my data. Bad hey! Oh and another interesting fact about me is that my parents once thought I was crazy for quitting my job but hey, I solo back packed to over 20 countries!

  8. When engaging in dialogue or seeing which person is following you on Google Maps I prefer to see their profile photo instead of a caricature!

Notes:

  2. Yes we do have leaders but still it’s a close game and there’s still time for anyone to end up the outright winner :wink:

A Name Game NEWS FLASH

Wow, wow, wow!!! I have to tell you, I’m really impressed because I tried hard to make it a little more difficult this round given the double points available but to no avail, one Local Guide has submitted what can only be described as an amazing perfect score! You know who you are and well done to you. I will publish once I get the leaderboards out which is now in hand. In the meantime, can the rest of you smarten up before I reveal who has submitted a perfect score already? :joy: :rofl: :smiley: :sunglasses:

In fact, can you guess who that might be?

A week ago I mentioned thatone Local Guide has submitted the perfect score and with the issues I’ve had this month with trying to get the leaderboards out and then the errors made by so many, not to mention a busy time at home, this is the first chance I’ve had to update the running scoreboard so there you are, @Mo_TravelleerX is once again showing his prowess and leading. Well done! I have since received two other entries and will check those out tomorrow.

Well it’s darn close now with @Mo_TravelleerX on top with 162 points, and @JustJake and @EvaBar in equal second position with 161 points. Well done you three each with a perfect 88 double-point score this round which puts you way in front of the pack LOL.

When I saw the perfect scores I thought that once again it was just too easy and so I’ll have to think harder on the next round lol.

Talk about coming in from behind! After jumping in 6 months after the start, @IzzyOz , both a newbie Local Guide and a newbie member of Connect, just got a perfect score for the August round of the Name Game and with that perfect score jumps to 4th position. It just goes to show that anyone could win this. Perhaps Izzy is one to watch…Well done Izzy!

@AdamGT I mean, I wouldn’t say it was easy, I still had to put plenty of work into it :slightly_smiling_face:

But I guess if a newbie like @IzzyOz can get it, it wasn’t too hard either lol Welcome Izzy and good job on your first game! Way to time it with the double points :slightly_smiling_face:

Now just waiting on @TerryPG and @Trail_blazer to see if I stay in the Top3. Maybe Terry will forget all about it being on vacation away from civilization lol

If this was an easy round I’d hate to see a difficult round! I think beginners luck played a big part in my success even though I did spend a ridiculous amount of time looking, looking, looking :slightly_smiling_face:

Hopeful thinking @EvaBar …however, I bet our @TerryPG has got the Name Game bug and just can’t let it go. I visualize him with a fishing rod, a dozen beers, and while sitting in his director’s chair, doing his search. Now @Trail_blazer in the past has shown that he is not one to give up too easily so I think that he will most likely chime blaze in before the finishing line time LOL. I have to add, as newcomer @IzzyOz has clearly shown, that even with only 4 rounds to go, it’s still very much an open race. Anybody could end up being the Name Game star. It ain’t over till the fat lady sings :joy: :rofl:

@IzzyOz , unfortunately, after doing this about 7 times now, they only get harder. Sometimes luck has helped me out too, other times I’ve spent some good amount of time searching lol

But, this is not to discourage you! You never know when @AdamGT will decide to throw in a curve ball and make things slightly better, like the double points this round :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @IzzyOz another big welcome and congrats on a awesome score on this round, Great way to start,

@EvaBar I haven’t forgot about this and am on my way home, staying at a hotel that has real internet which is something we lost on our Island retreat.

And No @AdamGT you got a few things wrong with your description of my vacation, NO directors chair, just an uncomfortable small aluminum boat or dock fishing. And NO internet, there was limited , but my 4 teenage grandkids seemed to be on it everyday, I would be lucky enough to get on early A.M. before they got up, but it wasn’t consistent enough to search. You may have been right on the beers thou.

I do have to submit my entry. And IzzyOz this challenge was tougher, congrats and welcome again

@EvaBar well done you for playing the name game 7 times even though they got harder, love your tenacity! :blush: I was very lucky that this was a double points round since I’m so late to the party. It will be interesting to see if @AdamGT comes up with another twist next month. If it’s harder hopefully I won’t end up cross eyed by the end of it :laughing: :laughing: :laughing:

Oh and if you think you’re likely to go cross eyed, just think about me, nearly 50 leaderboards each and every month, involving hundreds and hundreds of Local Guides from all over the world, thousands of links to build and check before posting…I’m going to stop now cos I’m feeling :dizzy_face:
