The most intresting day as a local guide - Milies and the cave of Chiron

To visit Greece in autumn is a perfect way to catch the last sunny and warm days for the Nordic people and do not suffer from the exhausting sun at the same time.

We (people age from 7 to 67) were very happy to stay near Volos town and we could not miss the opportunity to go up in the picturesque and vivid mountains of the Pelion.

We went to the village called Milies and I should admit that it is very authentic, old and mysterios village that should be visited.

We could not use the Pelion train as far as we came one week too late. So not to be dissapointed, please check the schedules and the working hours before you go, using http://www.trainose.gr

We rent a car and went to Milies, following the brown road signs (from Volos it should take 45-55 min to go).

If you follow the signs to the Milies railway station and turn left, you would find an old and renovated station and railways for the small and mythical train.

After visiting the railway station do not miss the small yellowish-green sign showing the direction to Centaur Cave. To reach the cave you should cross the village and see the real houses and way of living of local people who are very welcoming and saying ‘‘hello’’ .

The stone stairs/path goes down - choose a very comfortable shoes. The way to the cave with a 7-year old kid might take 25-30 min one way. The nature, the fresh air, the pure sounds of nature - just made my day!

After amazing walk to the cave and back, we went 3-4 min up by car following the main raod and then the road sign showing the direction to the village center. We found a goog but not big parking area in front of local museum and old library. We left the car there, visited small tourist shops with a big choice of honey and hand craft and went up following the main road. Not far from the tiny church we found a family restourant with exceptionally good local food.

I hope a lot that during my next visit to Greece, I will use the Pelion Train - a mythical route…
