The most interesting thing you've done as a Local Guide?

About four years ago, I moved into a new town. Since I haven’t settled in fully, I decided to move around to find an eatry where I can buy food in the main time till I’m able to set up my kitchen.

The owner of the eatry and I got close over the next couple of days. He complained of low patronage. I already had a plan which I know would make his business grow and make him have more clients.

I went outside the eatry and took some pictures, came in and did same.

I opened my Google Maps account, as a local guide, I utilised the “Create a place” feature. I added the place on Google Maps, add pictures and gave an honest review. I also listed the kinds of dishes they had.

Over the next couple of weeks, I started seeing lots of views on the pictures and reviews of the eatry I added on Google Maps. I was happy.

I called the eatry owner to ask about his business. He was super excited; he’s been getting new customers! He said he asked each and everyone of them how they got to know about his business. Their responses were that they discovered in on Google Maps!

I was excited for him too. Through the local guides program, I have been able to make his business grow even more.

He took advantage of it too by uploading pictures regularly to promote his business.

It’s so interesting and heartwarming how my little gesture helped him stay in business.
