The most Interesting thing that I have done as a Google local guide : Adding Places and photos .
I started using Google maps in 2013 when one of my friend told me about it, while we were going to meet our friend , who lived far away from our village . We reached the place easily by making use of Google Map and met our friend.
On that day, I realised benefits of using Google maps to find places rather than asking strangers , while travelling .
Slowly, I started using Google maps to check location , reviews, photos etc .
I started getting notifications from Google Maps to write review about the places I have visited. I was happy to write reviews as it could help someone , as I got help from Google Maps .
At first , I used to write reviews only . Then I started using Google maps to find places that are not much famous . Then I understood that, still there are so many places whose names are not mentioned in Google maps and photos are also not available . I was slightly disappointed .
But I was not ready to give up .
I searched for videos in YouTube on how to add places and photos on Google Maps and I tried that . When I saw the email from Google Maps that the place that I have added is verified by Google maps , I was excited and my interest to add places was doubled .
Here is a look at some of the places and photos that I have added :
- Muscat International Airport
A photo taken inside the Muscat International Airport-that achieved 2018 “World Leading New Airport Award” at the World Travel Awards in Lisbon .

- BARIK ENERGY LLC :
This is the company where I am working now . When I joined this company ,
I used to get calls from our clients and other suppliers to know the location . I have to explain them about 5 to 10 minutes about the location as it is inside an industrial area far from the town .
My Boss used to give my phone number to whoever needs to know the location .
When I searched in Google maps. I couldn’t identify the location as the place was not added to Google Maps .
Then I added this place and photos on Google Maps .
After that , if someone ask me about this place , I tell them to search in Google maps for this place . Now , my boss is also proud about me as I’m the one who added this place to Google maps.

- Rose Garden
I love Roses …A photo taken from Rose Garden
I visited the Rose Garden with some of my friends . Just to test my photography skills , I captured a photo of Rose . I was shocked by seeing the photo . Immediately I added the photo to Google Maps . Most of my friends and relatives appreciated me by seeing this photo.
- Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
Photo captured inside the Largest Mosque in Oman showing the Main carpet,Dome and chandelier in a single frame .
I took the photo inside the Largest Mosque in Oman - The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque as I got excited about the interior works . The construction of this Mosque took around 6 years and seven months .
It has world’s second largest single piece carpet in the world and weighs 21 tonnes.
I thought, I could add this photo to Google Maps . When I added , thousands of people viewed and was happy to see that.
Even though tourists are allowed to walk around the Mosque and surrounding garden , they are not able to see inside the Mosque due to certain restrictions . So , by adding this photo to Google Maps , I’m able to show everyone , how the interior looks like .
In this way , by adding places and photos I’ve made an impact on Google maps .
