And boy, do I wish that I could turn back the clock to 2018, right now! No lockdown!
The crazy freedom that my family and I enjoyed.
My husband and I decided that a RV holiday, travelling around that wonderful utopia Florida, taking our then 10 yr old daughter, was a fantastic idea. Who, by the way needs to schedule, book and plan everything.
We, however decided to book the plane tickets and RV and then fly by the seat of our pants! Why? Well, just because we needed to! Maybe it was me that needed to?
We started in Orlando and of course finished there, 15 days later.
Travelling that vast state in our comfy 4 sleeper RV, feeling a sense of freedom that I had never felt before or unfortunately since.
We stayed at Kissimmee Prairie State Park. Which completely blew my mind with it’s splendid, natural beauty. It was my place, my spirit place, the peace was unreal. I had never before really appreciated the glorious starry heavens until sitting around a campfire there. We walked passed alligators as we explored, this sent my daughter over the end and she marched back to camp. Convinced that she would be an orphan by lunch.
Our adventure took us to Collier-Seminole State Park, Tigertail Beach, Pine Island, Honeymoon Island State Park, Cedars Keys, Marshes Sands Beach, Rainbows Springs State Park and Clewiston and many more gorgeous places.
Each one full of vibrant nature and wildlife, keeping us busy spotting beautifully unusual animals and plants. Each of us felt a calmness and balance that we probably had never felt prior to the trip.
It was amazing to spend so much time outside and the boost to our physical and mental health was clearly visible. We were bursting with joy and energy.
It was while in Clewiston that we visited the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki museum, somewhere that I have wanted to visit for over 20yrs. Unfortunately as soon as we got there I got a strange and extremely painful migraine and couldn’t see, which lifted when we left, 2 days later. Even though I couldn’t enjoy the surroundings as I wanted to, the spiritual feel of the place and people was tangible. And, I just take the headache as a sign, that I need to go back! Oh heck!
Throughout our travels everyone we met was kind, informative and happy, it was great to be around such fun, vivacious people.
Even the night that my husband couldn’t book anywhere to stay (spring break:person_shrugging: ) when he informed me that we could park up in Walmart.
”Everyone does it” he beamed at me.
Well, that night I thought that we may get murdered! Not really high on the things to do on holiday, for me anyway.
That was until I saw all the elderly folk with RVs bigger than many UK homes parked up at the back of Walmart.
”We always do this!” many said grinning, as if I was the crazy one!
In fact, it was a great night and my daughter gets much delight in telling friends that she slept in Walmart!
The whole trip was blissful, it was a journey, in more than one way for me and I discovered a lot about myself.
It’s seems that I got lost (many times) in Florida but also the greatest thing happened.
I found myself!
Thank you Florida!
