I would like to share with you my most important achievements on Google Maps as a local guide and the considerable influence I have had on them, which I find an experience worth sharing. In my city (Mosul), there is a great lack of Google Maps information, and as a local guide I have fed it. As a specialist in archeology, I focused my attention on historical and archaeological sites and museums, because I think it is one of the most important monuments on the maps. In December 2019 I entered the list of the best 1% of local guides in Mosul, an achievement that I am proud of and makes me happy that I am helping people through it.
Adding Places
I added 114 places to Google Maps, which are diverse, such as restaurants, government departments, schools, and markets. I made a big impact because These places have got more than 750,000 views. The following are among the most distinguished historical places that I added:
- The minaret of the Umayyad Mosque; the oldest archaeological minaret in Iraq. (Dated 642 A.D)
- Khan Hammo Al-qaddo; the biggest old Bazar in Iraq and one of the most remarkable monuments in Mosul’s old city. (Established 1882 A.D)
- Al-arabiyya bookshop; the oldest private bookshop in Mosul (Opened in 1921 A.D).
- Imam Awn Al Din shrine (Dated 1248 A.D)
Adding Photos
Photos are one of the significant illustrations on Google Maps, which is why I added a lot of photos to these maps. The total number of views of these photos reached more than 3.600,000 views. Some of these pictures are important because they constitute documentation of heritage buildings, archaeological sites, and museums, such as the Iraqi National Museum.
Some of my photos were selected to be the cover photos of important places on Maps, such as the panoramic photo of the city of Mosul, which became the cover photo for Mosul on Google maps, This is in addition to the photo of the Iraqi National Museum’s gate.
Edits
I made 117 successful editions to places on Google Maps, added information about them, corrected wrong information like opening and closing times, edited the place, or deleted it if it was duplicated, not present, or closed.
Ratings and Reviews
I write reviews about places I visit such as hotels, restaurants, cafes, archaeological sites, among others. I have also added many introductory comments to historical places, trying to provide an overview of the place, its history and significance, so that the users can have useful information about such places.
