The most interesting thing I've done as a Local Guide: getting a Master Photographer achievement.

The most interesting and exciting thing for me was getting a Master Photographer achievement.

To get it I should’ve gained 1 million views of my photos. It was a real challenge for me!

Once I got a notification from Google Maps, that the pic of a “delicious” breakfast set - taken in La Bottega Linka, Prague, Czech Republic, became popular. This was my very first popular photograph.

Since then, I began to check the popularity of my photos from time to time.

At the moment I have almost 3 million views (2,960,614) and 1,044 photos. Perhaps if I had so many views on Instagram, I could be considered a popular blogger:)

In my mind the number of views is a certain indicator of how useful photos are for other people. And it surprisingly doesn’t depend on the quality of the place. I’ll give you an example.

The most popular photo of those that I took is a pic of an open kitchen and the menu at the Oasis Mediterranean Restaurant in Williamsburg NY. The pic is absolutely unremarkable, as well as the restaurant, if you ask me. But still it’s the most popular.

The second in a row is a pic of a regular cafe. I didn’t even like the place! I was practically the only one who took photos of this place. To my surprise, apparently due to the location of the cafe- Tribeca area on Church St, this photo also became popular.

It seems that one can easily track the interest of potential visitors to a particular place by the popularity of photos on GM. If I were a business owner, I would take this opportunity.
