It’s a little known fact that some of the most unusual restaurants in America are tucked away (one might even say “hidden”) at local General Aviation airports around the United States. The airport diner or restaurant was very common when private aviation was more popular in the 60’s and 70’s, but even today, some of these restaurants hang-on and even flourish. While they do cater to pilots, most airport restaurants are good enough in their own right - and garner a following from the local community. The people who run these places are also characters in their own right, so that has been interesting too!
I fly around the country and as I encounter these hidden gems, I write reviews about them in Google Reviews. As it happens, my reviews of these restaurants have been some of my most successful posts, so I will continue to seek these little gems out and report upon them.

Great. After a long travel, taking nice food is must.
You are absolutely right @JLarr11 about these stucked away liitle gems the restaurants at aviation airports. A few years ago, I had a delicious and satisfying lunch meal called Chicken-fried steak at Southern Flyer Diner at Brenham Municipal Airport in Brenham, Texas.
Exactly. When we fly solely for purpose of eating in one of these places we affectionately call it “The $100 Hamburger” flight.
Thanks for that tip… when I next head to Texas I will try to stop there. Even something as simple as Chicken Fried Steak can be done well in one of these places. Maybe it’s just the setting that makes everything seem better. The other odd place to find good restaurants (sometimes!) is in bowling alleys.
Hi @JLarr11 ,
Thanks for sharing!
I’d like to let you know that I’ve moved your post to Local Stories, as it looks like an application post and it belongs there.
If you need some tips on how to create it, please check out the How to write a great application post for Connect Live 2020 and Connect Live applications are now open posts.
Hi Petra: Sorry about that. I had intended to put it there, but saw others with the same tagline and made a mistake. Thanks.
