The most interesting thing I've done as a Local Guide: brought a DSLR camera.

Having joined the local guides program, I quickly developed the skills like “Photography”, “Videography”, and became a “Reviewer”. Now, I am able to view places through different perspectives, and compare and judge them accordingly over Google maps. I recently got a new DSLR camera just for taking high quality pictures, in low light conditions and high resolution videos. One of the most interesting thing is that, without any course, I was able to handle, and gain skills over the professional camera in the manual mode. Yes, it is due to this “Local Guides Program”, that I gained some photography skills. I have uploaded almost 2,000 photographs to the Google maps, mostly from the remote villages, getting overall 5,177,871 views, most of which are of high resolution.

Also, being a local guide, I was able to make new friends on the local guide community, sharing ideas with them and learning new skills from them, thanks to the Google Local Guides Program.

(Yet another most interesting thing besides photography, as a local guide I did was that I was able to add places from the very remote locations of my country, India, as my job nature allows me to visit remote locations, and when I discover small businesses at such remote locations, I try to add those places to the maps, so that the tourists and other people may get help from google maps. I have been to remote villages of Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tripura, and various undeveloped villages of India. As a local Guide, I feel proud and excited at the same time, thanks Google.)

Here are some of high resolution photographs that I have taken using my photographic skills over the DSLR camera, being a local guide:

The Trio:

Sometimes, I like to dine out and take pictures at the same time.

Jagti Colony:

This is a colony in Jammu & Kashmir

Recently, I attended a Hindu ritual, “Yagnopavit”, at my cousin’ s house. It is a very important ritual in the Hindu religion and has a special significance, as important as marriage. In this ritual, a sacred thread is worn by the person undergoing this ritual.

Having developed nice photographic skills being a Google local guide, I volunteered as a photographer at a function at my cousin’s house, take a look:
