The most interesting thing I've done as a Local Guide: Adding "missing road networks"

I believe perfection in geography. That’s why I love perfection in Google maps.

As I hail from a village in India, I know that there are missing links of road networks in Google Maps. I took that as a challenge and hobby to add new road networks in Google Maps.

That’s why the most interesting thing for me as a local Guide is to add missing road networks in Google Maps.

I am also a beta tester for the Google Maps application. Hence I love fixing issue to enhance the perfection

The vast village road network in India sums up to more than 70% of the entire road network in the country.

Hence, it is important to have a good space for road networks in the maps.

The accumulation of these road networks is subject to verification by Google Authorities, but the happiness that I feel after each addition is of no words.

I realized the importance of these road networks in the 2018 & 2019 Kerala Floods.

It was a situation where the people couldn’t even understand whether they are on a road or on a stream.

Google Maps was the soul saver in this situation.

That day I realized the importance of completion of road networks. It not only helps in navigation but also saves people’s life.

Google also provided help by pointing out the safe shelters, access to water, medicine etc. This is made possible by the contributions from thousands of local guides to the road networks. Thus it also helps to fight against natural calamities.

The provision to edit the road is another feature I found interesting in Google Maps. There is a chance of slight mistakes in less-accessible areas. Local guides will be in a position to understand the geography of the situation and hence change the networks accordingly.
