The most interesting thing I’ve done as a local guide:Traveling around my country —— Taiwan.

Just before my graduation from university, my friends and I realized that we hadn’t done anything that sounds crazy. We then soon decided to travel around Taiwan with motorcycles! After a few times of meeting, we hit the road with google map. It was quite simple —— set some labels on google map, and started to direct.

Although it hadn’t released motorcycle mode then, we still reached every single place on our schedule. There was a special goal we wanted to get —— took a photo on every main train stations in every county.

(Chiayi Train station, Chiayi)

We went clockwise along the provincial highway started from Kaohsuing. It took about 13 days to finish our journey, visiting some famous tourist attractions and some special mysteries. Include any significant landmarks such as tropic of cancer in Chiayi, the most east/west/south/north lighthouse of Taiwan and some national parks, absolutely.

(Crystal Church, Chiayi)

(Xiangshan, Taipei)

(YangMing Shan, New Taipei)

(Chen-bin fishing Harbor,Keelung)

(Tropic of center, Hualien)

The coastline in the west and the south are suitable for visitors to swim and stay. Fjord coast in the north and cliffs in the east, both of them are only for viewing.

(Kenting, Pingtung)

(LaoMei Green Reef, New Taipei)

(Tara Station, Taitung)

Every county has its unique feature. It is always windy in Miaoli and Hsinchu, almost raining every day in Yilan; skyscrapers are countless in Taipei and Kaohsiung, but all you can see is the mountain in Hualien.

(Houlong Cape of Good Hope, Miaoli)

(skysrapers, Taipei)

(Mountains, Hualien)

Because of the tropical and subtropical area, the weather in Taiwan then was perfect for us to travel. Clear, hot and sunny. It was necessary to wear ultraviolet protection clothes and took the sunscreen to prevent sunburn.

We ended up reluctantly with tanned skin and then back to school life.

(I got so tanned! Lol)

Also, the food different in each county. It mostly tastes sweeter in the south, but salter in the north.

(Taiwanese meatball/ba wan, Changhua)

(Mian Tea, Changhua)

(Taro balls, New Taipei)

(must-try list in Miaokou Night Market, Keelung)

By the way, it surprised me that we didn’t spend too much time and money on accommodations. It was really convenient that you could easily find an ideal hotel on google map. No matter how far or how much it cost, it showed on the map. We could pick the one which meets our budget and route.

After this journal, I managed my album and started to post photos and wrote comments. I hope I can help visitors to know more about those beautiful places and wonderful delicacy. Google Maps makes me love my country more and let the whole world explore this formosa.

Wow, great pictures @yi-shiuan

It looks like your post was accidentally caught in our spamfilter (which is pretty strict here; it can be triggered even by simply making edits to a recently published post). I have now released it from the spam folder.

If you’re new to Connect, this post will probably be a good starting point.

Hi @yi-shiuan , since there’s still time for the application, I really suggest you to read carefully at this Guideline again of how to make a good application post, which the post must be 300 words minimum and it should be under “Local Stories” topic, not Travel. Wish you luck!

You’re welcome @yi-shiuan .

One more thing which is quite important here on the forum: if you want to make sure that another Connect user sees a reply you give, make sure to ‘tag’ them by typing the ‘@’ symbol and then select that user from the list (or start typing the name if there is no list).

@JanVanHaver I got it!
Thanks a lot!
