As a local guide I contribute with my reviews photos and helpful tips on Google maps of the places I visit to help other travellers and also help the business of the place I visited. The most interesting thing that I have done as a local guide is that once I visited a small hole in the wall restaurant in Madinah Saudi Arabia. That restaurant was listed on google maps but there was not much info. It was located away from the centre of the town. Not even close to any tourist activities. It was in a nondescript place. I went there to order to go food. While waiting for my order to get prepared I took some pictures of the menu and the dining area of the restaurant. I loved the taste of the food it was so homely and well prepared. I wanted to review the place and uploaded the pictures. After a month or so I got notifications from Google that my photo has been seen by over a 1000 people!! I was delighted. Though I have uploaded many pictures and posted a lot of reviews which are popular on the touristy trail and get good traction, the response I got for this particular post was phenomenal to say the least as it was not a popular place without any reviews or photos.This really gladdened me. I realised that since this restaurant was out of the usual touristy area and not very well known but which serves excellent food which is palatable to the expat community that resides in the area nearby. Staying in a foreign country many people long for food which they would get in their homeland and this particular restaurant was serving the purpose.
Sometimes a particular post gives a lot of satisfaction when the response is overwhelming when you least expect from it. Also it makes me happy that I helped that small business to grow and also my pictures provided many visitors a lot of utility. I am attaching the google maps link to the restaurant.
