Hello,
Let me tell you how my epic fail of organizing a Local Guides meet up turned into an unforgettable experience that I made great friends through.
Last year in April I decided to organise a Local Guides meet up event in Munich. I have posted my invite through Local Guides platform with the post content below:
“Dear All in Munich! Especially the expat community,
As May 1st is public holiday, there is a room for drinks on 30th evening after work…
Let’s get together in Munich to have some beers at Hofbrauhaus on 30th April, at 8:30 PM to catch up on living in Munich and exchange the ideas on what to do in Munich.
I will be holding a Local Guides paper in front of Hofbrauhaus at 8:30 PM, so you can recognize me, we can meet there and walk in ?”
I went to the meeting point right before the meeting time, and hold my Local Guides paper for a while. Only one person showed up ?
When we were walking in with the other Local Guide, a young group of people stopped us to ask what it is about as they have seen me standing there holding a paper for a while. Me and the Local Guide from Amsterdam have joined to their table for a beer. These people were all living and working in Munich but they were all foreigners, from Canada, US, Vietnam and Israel. Israeli girl had a super cute dog as well ? I explained them Local Guides community, how it is connected to Google maps, why I am using it, and the benefits of being a member of the community. All of them were aware of Google Maps but none of them were aware of the Local Guides community. They were all interested and told me that they will join Local Guides as well.
After couple of beers and awesome conversations about science, TV series, technology and life in Munich with these awesome people, we left the beer garden to go to a club all together. It was a great experience and an unforgettable memory for me.
Some pictures from the evening are as follows.
