In the southern most tip of India there lies a Ghost town called Dhanuskodi, literally a stone’s throwaway from the North western part of Srilanka. Dhanushkodi has an important significance in the life of all Indians. All Indians grows up hearing the mythological tales of Ramayana where Lord Rama with the help of his monkey army built a floating bridge to invade Srilanka. Ravana the demon King of Lanka had kidnapped his wife Sita and thus he was left with no choice but to kill Ravana and bring his wife back. You believe it as Truth or fiction but you cannot deny the presence of multiple rock like structures in the Gulf of Mannar very evident in a Google Map. Thus, it garners a lot of excitement for religious belief of millions of Hindus in India.
From a tourist point of view this is a location which should not be missed at any cost. The British before independence of India had built a town and had also connected India with Srilanka with a railway bridge over the sea. In 1964 in one of the most deadly cyclone the region was ruthlessly destroyed by nature Today, as you reach Dhanuskodi from Rameswaram you have to take a 4*4 bus ride over the sea to the town of Dhanuskodi. You will witness dilapidated churches, post office and schools which are left behind tell the tale of the horrific storm. In contrast the Bay of Bengal on your left of the strip and the Indian Ocean on the right touches the shore with a trickle of waves and does not even allow us to imagine how dangerous it can be.
This is a land in India which brings you the story of a legend and the human endeavour to succeed against all odds. Experience it and get back to your land more strong a human being in days to come. This is the most interesting place I have ever visited and I wish all of you get a chance to visit here too
