The Milky Way, night sky at Mt. Tao

This photo is taken at the top of Mt. Tao. Here is 3325-meter-high, a good place for stargazing, but the air is freezing here!

In the picture, the light in the valley, from near and far, are “Wuling Farm”, “Sqoyaw”, and “Slamaw”, there are the tribe of Atayal people(an aboriginal group in Taiwan). Around 50 years ago, many Han people came here and farming here. This valley between Snowy mountain range(Where Mt. Tao belonging) and Central mountain range. The opposite side of this valley is Mt. Nanhu(height 3742 meters) and Central Range Point(height 3705 meters). Maybe someday I can take the picture from there also.

This photo is taken by Canon EOS 450D with Tokina fish-eye lens(10mm), the exposure time is 30 seconds. Because of the camera dod not mount on Equatorial mount. I think the upper limit of exposure time is 30 seconds. If shutter opens longer, the star trails will come out.

Dazzling picture @PHWang

Hi @PHWang ,

This is a great shot! It looks like this is not your first attempt shooting the night sky. The photo looks very professional and thank you for the details. A newbie in photography like myself could use some advice from a more experienced person. What were your ISO settings here?

Good luck with going to the opposite side at Central Range Point and taking another great picture from there.

Beautiful picture.
