The Markets

This photo was taken at a weekly market near Brisbane. It becomes more important to see things from a different perspective than what most people see. A mix of colours and shapes is interesting to the eye but it is not always obvious that it is worth a photo. It helps to experiment and always be aware of what is around you. A photographer sees things uniquely and the photos can be a reflection of their personality.

Thanks for sharing @JeffMuir markets are often interesting places to find and photograph items for Maps relevant to regular stall holders at that market.

Are you able to tell us more about Brisbane Market?

Hi @PaulPavlinovich

The markets are held every weekend at South Bank Parklands. It is the former site of the World Expo 1988. It is not a huge market but it is worth seeing.

I enjoy seeing markets but rarely buy anything except food. Since becoming a Local Guides, it is more interesting to try and catch aspects of the market in photos. In order for it to be shared with Google Maps, the markets need to be listed and fairly consistent. If the markets are not on the map, it might be possible to add them to the location that hosts it.

Perhaps one of the more frustrating aspects is when there is some temporary event that hosts interesting vendors and there is no way to capture that type of info on the map. It would be worth considering having points of interests that are not fixed to one location on the map. For example, street food vans can change location many times a day.

Just rambling a bit now.

Hope you have a great and happy new year!

Hello @JeffMuir ,

You are right that it is more important to see things from a different perspective than what most people see.

Amazing photo, thank you so much for sharing with us. Are these some special stones or crystal?

Hope you had a great Christmas celebration and wishing you happy New Year in advance!

Hi @Ivi_Ge ,

Thank you so very much, Happy New Year to you as well.

It was a mixture of stones and crystals. The market stall was very different from the others and it caught my eye. The photo turned out much better than expected. It was a great hint at how simple things can become amazing if it is captured well.

Best regards,

Jeff

Thanks @JeffMuir that is a great write up of the market and thanks for the feedback on temporary things. Maps is rolling out Events which goes part way to resolving the temporary things but I agree more is needed for temporary festivals, markets, seasonal businesses and my personal favourite food trucks. Wouldn’t it be cool to know when your favourites have set up shop nearby and be able to review them?

Regards Paul
